Black-pearl necklaces can be of a traditional length. When a central pearl is exactly in place of the pharyngeal recess, the necklace is called "choker". The "princess" necklace usually reaches 50 cm (20 inches) and especially suits plump women, trying to make their neck appear a bit slimmer and graceful. Further, the necklace of 66 cm (26 inches) length has a bizarre name "matinee". It can be worn as a bracelet or with the help of two invisible locks can be turned into a short necklace. Freshwater pearl is always smaller than the sea one and in most cases has an irregular fantasy shape. The warm sea pearl called "akoya", the black one included, is the most expensive and has the highest quality. It is round, big, shining and marvelously beautiful. Its price depends on color. Pink-white is the costliest, it’s a rare pearl. The cheapest one is yellow-white and pale-yellow.

The pearl of the irregular shapes, called "barocco" is often used in earrings, rings and brooches. While choosing something like that, get based on the author’s idea, his conception. And again, this style is not for classics-loving people, it can appear too much extravagant.

Surely, the pearl necklace is in the league of its own. Here, make sure that pearls change evenly in their size from edges to the center. The most important factor for the pearl is the width of the pearl layer and the uniformity of the shine, reflecting the light.

The Cultured Pearl

The cultured pearl does not differ in its nature from the natural one. But, sometimes, the quality is lower. Craftsmen can improve it, e.g. change its color. The cultured pearl is also born in the shell. However, for a very long time the scientists have been trying to work out how to make the process of cultivation quicker and more effective. The genetic engineering has given a helping hand. A German scientist grows the pearls in his garden. According to his views, the conditions and process that happen in a shell are much alike to those within a pea. He is said to be successful in his experiments. The pea gives birth to the pearl… of the green color. Now the German is doing his best to grow the white one.
