The Outside (A Short Story)
It's odd. So odd. To be a nobody in life, but somebody who matters after life. That's Her. Rich. Popular. All anyone could ever want, but be missing a part of your heart. That's Him.
A short story by Ava Connally.

Her
......................
I had loved him forever. Since the day I first lay eyes on him. I still do. His gorgeous, green eyes, his silky brown hair. I would give my red hair to him for him to notice me, my green eyes, I would sacrifice too, I would give my life to be noticed by him...
..................
Him
.............................
I was popular. So popular. All the hot chicks in my school loved me. I knew that. But one thing annoyed me. My dream. In it, all I saw was luscious red hair and green envy eyes. I knew, I was in love. She was, my angel.
................
Her
.....................
I sat watching him and his friends, everyday, come rain or shine. He was my everything. I had nothing to live for. But he, he had everything.
But then, on one of these days, I was watching them leave. It was misty, I couldn't see any cars and I'm pretty sure he couldn't either.
He waved, angelically, his friends away and I watched him near the traffic lights.
After that, things happened too fast.
.......................
Him
...............
The mist was clouding my vision. I couldn't see anything. Nothing. Noot. Nothing.
I ignored the lights, they never worked, and crossed the wide main road.
Everything happened, too fast.
Two lights cut through the mist.
They got brighter,
Closer,
Coming for me.
Headlights.
A honk came from them. But I...couldn't...move....
My arms raised themselves, in a weak attempt, to evade the inevitable.
Death.
I braced myself for the impact.
All I saw, was a flash of red and I was plunged into darkness.
My angel.
...............
I woke in a hospital. And was greeted by the cries and hugs of my parents.
The Doctor came in and said...
"You are very lucky,
To be alive,
You only have,
A broken rib,
And a fractured ankle."
I answered,
"How could this be?
I was in a car crash."
He replied,
"You were saved,
By an angel."
....................
Her
..........................
I panicked. I didn't know where I was. I felt myself floating. Away.
I could see my body below me,
My red hair, spread on the slab,
My eyes, hidden behind my pale, closed eyelids.
I could see I was dying.
At least he would be ok.
Forever beautiful...
.............
Him
..................
My parents left the room and I left, limping, down the corridor,
I knew she would be in Op.
My Angel.
My beautiful, beautiful Angel.
Nobody was there.
Her, all alone.
I wandered in the theater.
She lay there, peacefully,
Like she was sleeping,
But, I knew,
She was gone.
I planted a kiss on her soft lips.
My Angel, I love you.
I plunged the scalpel into my chest.
May the Lord convey me swiftly to death.
Amen
....................................
Her
..................
And there he was, standing before me.
Heaven was a dull place,
Without him.
But he had joined me, in death, in a second life,
Together, Forever.
...............
Him
.........................
My Angel.
Together, Forever.
...........................
Dedicated to anyone who has ever run out of hope. Believe in God. He will convey you swiftly to happiness.
Amen.
