The Only One - Chapter One

James is civilian on a planet called Olens. Olens fell under attack and was nearly destroyed but the other planet, Dreamsby, decided to spare Olens and make it their slave planet. James now must face the possibility of his sister becoming one of the slaves; and maybe even himself. There is no way to help Olens or it's people, James is certain of it. But the future has much to hold for both James and Olens.
Before I tell you my story I need to stress that it is not a sappy fairy tale or some romance novel that girls drool over. Nope. This is just about what caused the end of my world. Sounds sweet doesn't it?

Chapter One - The Freaks

"James!"

I turned my head away from my school books to see a blond hair wiry chic running up to me. Her smile covered more of her face than her skirt did her legs. Trashy? Nah, just Angela.

"What's up?" I asked before turning back to my studies. Famous speeches made by former kings could interest me more than hearing about Angela's new boyfriend drama.

Without permission Angela slid next to me on the one person bench and started into the top new gossips of that day and ages teenagers. What I remembered from that conversation was that King James, which by the way is an awesome name, wrote none of his speeches but was famous for every one of them. After about fifteen minutes of her jabbering my ears off, I shut the five books and attempted to juggle three of them as I unzipped my backpack.

"...and that's why Stephanie cheated on Charles! Not because of his small equip-..." I held up my hand making her stop in mid sentence.

"What makes you think I want to hear what you just about said?" I asked appalled.

Angela gave a too innocent look and shrugged. "So before next time you decide to pick a date you know what sizes you are getting into."

I shuddered at her gutter mind. "Angela, I love women. Let me stress that more. I L.O.V.E women. Not you of course but every other girl."

Angela rolled her eyes and huffed but she did not try to counter me because she knew it and I were both a loss cause. With a more serious tone and expression which made me actually believe that under all that makeup she could actually be beautiful, she whispered, "Are you ready for tomorrow?"

Okay, so here is a summary of our day-to-day hell. Five years ago the entire planet lived in harmony. Olens, our planet, ran out of water so we stole from a planet that is a sister realm to ours. When the other realms planet, which is called Dreamsby, found out about our invasive means of stealth, they blew their caps and rebelled. On a side note, let me make clear that our planet has been around for billions and billions of years and since the beginning Olens has never fought. Olens is a peaceful planet that believes in no war or violence. Such tree huggers, right?

Anyway, back to my overview, Dreamsby attacked and easily demolished most of our planet. With our population dwindling and most of our food and shelter gone, Dreamsby thought what the hell and decided to make this their slave planet. Every year on March 23, Dreamsby's rulers would come to our pathetic planet and pick out men to work for them and beautiful women who were fit to marry high ambassadors. And each year they would 'flush out', aka kill, the past years picks and come again to pick out new ones. This year my eldest, and only sister who had survived, was on that list and so was Angela's older brother. Next year her and I will be on the list.

I know that was a lot of information and it was kind of gloomy but hey, I warned you.

When I did not respond she punched my arm then side hugged me. "Cheer up! The population has been growing so there is less of a chance for our siblings to be picked."

I shrugged her off and nodded absently. "Yea, cheer up, James. Your sister may die but in a year so may you so what is the big deal?"

Looking hurt, Angela huffed, again, and stood. "I'll see you tomorrow at the gathering." With that, she wandered off.

I should not have been so tough on her, it wasn't her fault, but Clarisse was the only family I had left. There was one thing I knew for sure, tomorrow would be another day in hellsville.
