The Obvious But Hidden Secret About Fear
Overcoming fear is a big challenge. However, you can face it much easier if you know how it evolved during our history. Fear isn’t anymore what it was ten thousand years ago. The world has changed and our fears too. Find out what happened and what to do about it?
Fear is one of the strongest emotions we humans can have and it has a tremendous power over us. Fear can take over your whole body and paralyze you. Fear can take over your mind and prevent you from making changes in your life. Fear is powerful.
We humans fear so many things. We fear rejection, failure, the unknown and even success.
A long time ago, fear was very useful to us: it meant the difference between a short life and a long life. Our ancestors knew that they had to fear the lion and avoid the encounters with the king of the jungle. Those fears were based on real facts. They saw that the lion ate one of their friends and so they concluded that it has to be feared. It makes sense, right?
However, this is the 21st century. The world has changed and we live in a completely different society now. Fear is not helping us anymore but instead it is hindering us. Don't get me wrong here: it is normal to fear and it is still very useful. But here is a secret: most of our modern fears are irrational and they only exist in our minds. Read the last sentence again, because it can change your whole thinking process!
We humans are very good at making up horrible images of possible negative outcomes in our minds. However, after facing those fears, we will eventually find out that nothing wrong happened and we were overly exaggerating. This is a disease of our modern society. It evaluated over the history along with the rules that different societies made up. We got too many rules and restrictions out there...
Getting out of the comfort zone
Whenever you feel safe, you are in your comfort zone. It's your little castle, no one can harm you in there. There are no risks involved, you don't have to do anything that is uncomfortable, you can live your life in peace.
Unfortunately, if you constantly remain in your comfort zone, you will die without achieving higher standards in your life. Moreover, you will be bored the rest of your life. Comfort is just the same as boredom, but it's wrapped in a beautiful package. You will not even notice it.
Outside your comfort zone, you have the unknown territories. The successful people regularly step outside of their comfort zone. They take the risk, and challenge these unknown realms. The more often they step out, the more they get accustomed to these new territories and soon this territories will make part of their own comfort zone. It's like conquering foreign territories.
You are in invisible chains, which are holding you back from getting out of the comfort zone. You were born without them, but for different reason these chains have been attached to you during your lifetime. It's not your fault, you can blame it on the environment.
If you want to get out of your comfort zone, you must take off these chains. Sometimes alcohol can do it, but I do not recommend it. It is artificial and lasts only for a little period. The best thing to do is facing your fear by TAKING ACTION. The more you practice stepping out your comfort zone, the more accustomed you become with it. This is the natural way with the long lasting results.
I recommend that you should do every day something that feels uncomfortable to you, something that you would not do normally, because you are too scared of doing it. Don't avoid it. Just do it. If you are scared to talk to new people, then go up to a completely stranger and ask him a simple question. If you want a girls phone number just ask for it. Watch what happens. It is the only way you can eliminate fear and be more confident.
