The Night Before Halloween: Chapter 2

Okie Dokie! Here's the second chapter!!! Please comment!!!!!!!!
Kitty yanked open the door to the Frozen Yogurt Palace and let the door slowly come to a close, allowing Kalli and Cameron very limited space to slid through. It was nearly deserted in the best hangout spot in all of Riceburg, which obviously meant something was going on. Kitty lazily took a seat in a booth at the back. "The town is setting up for the Halloween festival tomorrow," Kitty notified Kalli and Cameron. "Yea... We know," Kalli said grumpily, sliding over just enough to give Cameron a seat. Cameron got up and ordered three vanilla cones and carried them cautiously back to their booth.

While messily licking their ice creams, they all discussed their evening agenda. "Okay, so I think we should hide like you did, Cameron. To act like a mannequin would be best. Don't you think?" Kitty asked, shifting her eyes from one person to the other. Kalli and Cameron nodded their heads in agreement. Kitty gave them a look of disappointment but refused to say anything, so she glumly looked out the window at the volunteers for "Big Festival Set-Up". 'This festival is gonna be the biggest one yet! Plus Cameron, me, and Kalli will have the BEST costumes!!! Well... Me anyway.' Kitty thought. Kitty was always "number one". She always thought that the world revolved around her, which was something Kalli majorly disliked. Kalli seemed to be quite the opposite of Kitty; she thought of others before herself, if herself at all.

"Hey! How about we pick up a few scary stories at the library?" Cameron suggested excitedly. Kalli opened her mouth to happily agree, but Kitty beat her to it, "Okie dokie, me and you will stop by the library," Her eyes shifted towards Kalli, "while you go pack some stuff for tonight!" Before Kalli could argue, Cameron and Kitty were out the door.
Kitty and Cameron power-walked to the library. They entered the freezing, silent, book-filled room and headed towards the Halloween section that was set up for the special occasion.

Kitty scanned through several piles of books for one that she would be interested in. "Nope, no, negative..." Kitty murmured quietly under her breath. "Gosh, Kitty, shut up! Will ya?" Cameron sighed as he was shushed by the librarian then continued with a softer voice, "I found a really creepy looking book. It's about our town's Halloween history! Here, read the summary." Kitty had a look of terror on her face as she read a few things that were in the book. "This is the one!" She said gleefully, "We really don't need anymore..." So they checked out with Cameron's library card and left.
Meanwhile, Kalli was packing snacks and sleeping bags for their big night.

Once she had finally shoved the last item in the last bag, she ran out the door, slamming it shut behind her. Spotting Cameron and Kitty at their "meeting place", Kalli jogged so she wouldn't be late for a second time that day. "Okay, so we've got books, snacks, and bags! I think we're set!" Kitty said as Kalli arrived. The three walked inside All Hallow's Eve and sneakily threw their bags in a corner, hoping no one would notice. For several hours, they tried on different costumes and had costume contests. Towards the last store hour, they quieted themselves enough for them to be unnoticeable. Kitty, Cameron, and Kalli took their places in some mannequin's costumes and stood as still as possible when the security guard did his last round-about.

When the store was completely shut down, Cameron checked around to make sure they were the only ones there. When Kitty and Kalli got the "Coast is Clear" sign, they set up camp in the back of the rundown shop. Cameron pulled out his Halloween history book and searched through it for something interesting to tell the girls'. Kitty and Kalli played M.A.S.H. and Truth or Dare while they waited. Some time had passed when Cameron finally spoke and the girls' ears perked up to listen, "Wow, listen to this! In Riceburg, in the 1600's, everyone got together for some weird ritual where you sacrifice a mammal.

Sometimes they even sacrificed humans! People who were in jail or volunteered were thrown into an empty well that they filled with dry grass, then they set fire to them. Apparently, there's a legend to it... 'Only those who come from beyond may save the lost souls.' Strange..." Cameron shuddered as he said the horrible facts. Kitty and Kalli looked shocked and could barely move their faces. Once the shock had worn off, Kitty managed to ask, "What kind of religion did they have!?! And do you think they mean the well that's been covered up?" Cameron unhappily nodded in agreement to Kitty's last question.

Not long after the scary stories had been told, they were all straining to stay awake, but they just couldn't hold out till even twelve.
Soon they were all in a deep sleep, but something awoke Kalli. A bright light was coming towards her and frightened Kalli tried to hid. It was useless though because she knew she would never have time to hide her sister and Cameron. She let it come closer until she could see more details. It looked like a person, unknown gender, who had long, black, ragged hair that touched the ground. It was glowing, but yet it was covered in black clothes, head to toe. The skin on its pale face was torn to shreds. Kalli was terrified as it spoke directly to her, "Kallison Emmerson. Listen to what the townspeople tell you. Ignore your sister and friend. Good luck." It touched the middle of her scrunched up forehead and disappeared. Kalli lifted her finger to her head and felt around for anything unusual. But Kalli was drifting back into a deep sleep or she was fainting, she couldn't tell which.
