The Night Before Christmas...Sort Of

A Christmas poem!
Hey guys! I hope you all had a very nice Christmas and got everything you wished for and more! I know this is after the fact but I just finished this and gave it to a good friend of mine for her secret Santa gift! My family thought this was really cute (my mom even suggested that I publish it haha) and I'm a little nervous to see what my friend has to say about it but I just wanted to share it with you guys to see what you all thought about it (the title isn't definite. I really haven't come up with one so I just made this one up on the spot just to post it). To my readers: It took me away from Sweet Dreams to Nightmares for a little while but I'm working on the next chapter now so for those waiting don't worry it will be on the way soon! I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing this!

***
'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring not even a mouse
Now usually here I would mention the stockings being hung by the chimney with care
But there's something on my mind that I just can't bear
See, at twelve on the dot my sister told me a story
One that embodied the end of the world in all of its glory
She waited for me to get snuggled in bed
And told me that there was no Santa, it was our parents instead
They bought the presents, they wrapped the gifts
They brought the big packages no reindeer could lift
Now it's one o'clock, now two o'clock, now three o'clock, now four!
I haven't had a wink of sleep and I can't take it anymore!
After making sure my sister was fast asleep
I sneaked out of bed without making a peep
I inched down the stairs one by one
Hoping to see if any Christmas magic had been done
But to my surprise nothing had changed
The milk glass was full and the sugar cookies were still neatly arranged
Good he hasn't come. I'll prove it to my sister
I'll show her that there really is a jolly red mister
I sat on the couch and waited for any noise or clatter
I'd be right there waiting to see what was the matter
Suddenly at the door I heard three hard knocks
Then the jostle of keys and the twisting of the lock
I jumped from my seat and took to the closet
I'll just hide to see what being would cause it
Then from up above I heard the scurrying of feet
And soon I saw my mom, my dad, and my Uncle Pete!
Out from the cold night they brought in bags and boxes
They carried action figures, Barbies, and two small doxens
I couldn't believe my eyes I wanted to wail!
It was everything I had written on my Christmas List I had put in the mail!
I watched quietly as they dragged out wrapping paper and bows
There were ribbons and bags and things I thought only an elf knows
They snipped, they wrapped, they tapped, they cut
It was hard to watch as I fought against keeping my eyes shut
As they placed the finishing touches and slid the presents under the tree
My mom signed each gift 'From Santa' How could that be?
My sister was right, Santa wouldn't come
My parents erased him away as they ate his cookies down to the last crumb
When the milk glass was empty and their bellies all fed
Back into the night my Uncle Pete fled
My parents quickly shared a kiss under the mistletoe with joy
And sneaked back upstairs having had succeed in their ploy
I couldn't move from the closet. I wouldn't come out
My Christmas spirit shattered and all I could do was pout
I squeezed my eyes shut. I wanted to wipe my mind clean
I wanted so much to forget everything I had seen
Santa's real! Santa's real! I kept telling myself
But the truth remained as loud as the ticking of the clock on the shelf
When I opened my eyes to my surprise I was snug in my bed
I looked to the clock, it was 1:30, was it all in my head?
Could it all have been a dream? Was none of it real?
My hope still remained my sister and parents couldn't steal
Before I could celebrate I heard a loud bump
It made me frozen and made my heart jump
Someone was downstairs and I had to go see
I needed to know once and for all who was responsible for the presents under the tree
I eased out of bed as quietly as can be
And climbed down the stairs surreptitiously
The time had come to see if my sister's tale was true
So I could finally give credit where credit was due
I jumped around the corner without another pause
And right before my eyes stood the real Santa Claus!
He stood tall and round with a white beard combed so neat
He was dressed in red from head to toe with black boots on his feet
With one big gulp he finished all the milk
And picked up his big red bag that looked as soft as silk
"Santa!" I called out without delay
And he turned from the fireplace and smiled my way
"You're real! You're real! I knew you existed!
I just couldn't believe the story my sister had twisted!"
With a shake of his belly he laughed "Ho! Ho! Ho!"
And right then and there my Christmas spirit did grow
Then with a nod of his head and his finger to his nose Santa did wink
And he disappeared up the chimney faster than I could blink
Now, I didn't see him fly away or hear a Christmas greeting
But none of that meant more to me than our chance, magical meeting
I crept back upstairs into my bed and got snuggled nice and tight
Nothing but sugar-plums would dance in my head tonight
But before I drifted back to sleep I couldn't help but smile with all my might
And with all my heart I whispered to the world, "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"
