"The Name" Postscript
A crab, a witch, a young girl, stream animals, and a secret-need I say more?
"…Yes, old woman," stated the crab, "It was me." And he started moving backward into the river.
The old woman shrieked in frustration. She pounded her feet on the ground, casting dirt in every direction, trying to crush the crab. It swiftly dodged her feet and escaladed out of the river, running through a larger forest, clustered with cherry blossom trees. The crab was terrified for its life, but found the chase exciting in a way. Soon, the crab heard a roar of thunder and saw a bright flash of lightning streak through the sky and it began to pour rain. The crab was then hit by an abnormally large rain drop which carried the crab down an ominous hill, crashing the crab into a tree at the bottom with such great force the crab became disoriented. It looked dizzily around for the old woman, but she was no where in his sight.
"Crab! Where are you?" her voice suddenly boomed, coming from no certain point of direction.
The crab’s heart froze as it felt its blood drain from its face as he saw the old woman stalking towards him, her eyes burning red like the hot embers of a fire that no one nor thing could tame. The crab was then gently elevated by two soft, kind hands. The crab spun around and his eyes perceived the image of the face of the girl to whom he had told the old woman’s name to.
"What are you doing?" the crab questioned, quite confused.
"You helped me and now I shall help you," she said, her voice sounding melodic and soothing.
Before anything more could be said through the crab’s lips, the old woman’s voice echoed, seeming so boisterous that the whole world could perceive her voice clearly.
"Girl! Hand the crab over to me at once!" she hollered.
"No," she responded, defiantly.
"What? After I let you work for me?" she said, sounding harsher and angrier than ever.
"I have been staying with you for the longest time and this crab has done more for me than you have," she said, sounding slightly agitated.
The crab uncomfortably shifted his weight back and forth in the girl’s palms. The old woman grew more and more choleric with every word that had come from the girl’s lips. She huffed and puffed, obviously hyperventilating with frustration and pulled a dark, coffee colored wand from her long, slate-colored sleeve. She mumbled a few words from another language and a bright white light flashed before the eyes of the three creatures, but it did not affect the girl or the crab as it should have.
"When you transfigured me into a crab, old woman," the crab began, "I never lost my magic."
And with that note, the crab jumped from the girl’s palms and morphed into a handsome young man whom had sun-bleached, spiked hair and crystalline sapphire eyes. He jerked the wand away from the woman and mumbled some linguistic words, blinding everyone momentarily. When the blinding light dispersed, the old woman’s presence had been depleted from the area.
"The old woman had once had me as her diminutive servant, just like you, and I had discovered her name by searching through her chamber, so she turned me into a crab," the gentlemen stated to the girl, "So, I told you her name so she would come and find me, so I could rid of her once and for all and save you from he devilish clutches."
Then, the young man and the girl both celebrated their triumph over the old witch as they paraded back to the river and turned all the fish, shrimp, frogs, and other animals back into humans.
"The vile witch is vanquished!" the young man cheered.
Then, boisterous animosity erupted within the group of transfigured humans.
"Why would you do that?" one yelled out, with great vexation appearing in his tone.
"I thought," the young man began.
"No! She’ll come back to haunt us!" a young transfigured girl cried out, fearfully.
Then, they all lambasted the young girl and the gentlemen, slaughtering them both, though the two of them only were attempting to do a kindness for the emotionally-troubled group. The witch had never come back to haunt them for when she was asphyxiated, her magic was destroyed along with her dead corpse. The magic she had once possessed had been trapped inside the wand that had never been seen again after the young man and the young girl had annihilated the old woman.
