The Most Universal Gift of All

Are you looking for the perfect gift? Something personalized and unique but not too intimate like engraved jewelry (unless you want it to be). Something beautiful and will last for years to come but won't ever get in the way like a sculpture might. Something that doesn't need too much maintenance to keep it looking prime...something like a fern, only better.

Metal wind chimes, of course! Wind chimes, whether they are small or large wind chimes, are indeed the perfect gift. You really can get them for just about anybody, family, friend, or significant other, male or female.

There are a lot of places (including websites) that sell wind chimes and offer an engraving option. Sometimes this is free, sometimes there is an added cost, but either way, this extra bit of personalization can really take this kind of gift to new frontiers. A lot of wind plaques come with lyrics, poems, quotes, pictures, so if you don't feel like getting it engraved you can at least choose from one that speaks to the receiver.

If you are looking for a unique house warming gift, these are a great choice. Typical housewarming gifts consist of kitchen appliances, but the best housewarming gifts are unique things that nobody else would think of (wind chimes, for example). It is much better to give somebody a set of wind chimes than a boring blender that somebody else probably already got for them.

Once you hang them up, you can pretty much forget about them and just enjoy the music they create. Every once in awhile you should clean them, but it's really no big task, especially if you get the metal ones. Wooden wind chimes have a nice, earthy sound to them, but they do not last as long unless you are super careful with them.

If you don't know anybody who you think you would like to get wind chimes for, why not get some outdoor décor for yourself? Garden wind chimes are the best kind of garden art because they are so low maintenance, and they appeal to the visual as well as audio senses.

Water running through a garden fountain, too, can be pleasing to the ear. But with a fountain you must always make sure the pumps stay unclogged and that there is a proper amount of chemicals so that algae does not grow. Plus they are expensive. They are a nice addition and there is no reason why you should not try one out, but if it is a matter of either one or the other, wind chimes are the way to go.

You really don't even need a garden to enjoy wind chimes. Just hang them out on the porch by the front door, or in the backyard. To hear the cheerful tinkling of a windchime on a quiet, sunny day is one of the most calming and comforting experiences you will ever have.
