The Monster in the Laundry

This fun poem reveals the secrets of the Laundry Monster.
There's a tiny little monster
That is seldom seen
Dwelling within
Our laundry machines

It loves to eat socks
And make undies pink
It works with mildew--
Forgotten loads stink.

It can vanish laundry hampers
Right before kids' eyes
So they put their clothes
In great big piles.

It enjoys plugging holes
So the water overflows
And it loves blocking vents
So the drying time grows.

And just when mom
Thinks she's all caught up
That monster scares the kids,
So the kids throw up

You know that monster
Thinks he's really cool
When he pushes clean towels
Into the swimming pool

That monster finds
That it is his greatest treasure
To trick the kids
Into his biggest pleasure.

They take their stacks
So fresh and clean
And put them back in
The laundry machines!

There's no way to kill it,
Don't even try
He'd take that chance
To squirt grease in your eye.

Just know he's there
With a grain of salt
And when the kids are grown
He'll slip into his vault.
