I reached into my jeans pocket, pulled out a folded piece of paper that was sealed with a blob of wax. It reminded me of the corny medieval romances, where they would seal a love letter with wax. I wished it was a love letter. I handed it to Elise. She took it in her delicate hands and broke the seal with her thumb. Unfolding it with care she eyed it cautiously. Breathing deeply she began to read. Slowly her brow creased and she began biting her lip, my nervous habit. She folded the paper and handed it back to me. Slowly she ran a hand through her blue hair.

"Where is she?" my eyes welled with tears. I closed them and swallowed deeply, trying to hold back my fears.

"At home. Mum is at home." I wanted to scream and demand answers, to know what was happening to my mum, I wanted to know why the hell her veins were black, I wanted to know why her eyes were white. I wanted and wanted, but I knew that what you want is hard to obtain. Elise smiled reassuringly, as if nothing strange was happening; slowly she raised her hand and a hush fell in the Poison Apple. Several people began winding their way towards us and the music struck up again. Soon we were surrounded by a circle of black clad people, four women and three men, they all waited expectantly.

"Silena, Roselle." Elise said turning to two of her followers, they nodded once and left. I knew that I was fighting curiosity. Elise then turned to the two other women. They nodded and left. Two men left.
"What am I going to do?" The last one said in a bored voice, I turned to face him. My breath caught. He was taller than me buy a head; he was muscled but not bulky. Whereas my eyes were emerald his were sapphire set either side of a straight nose. H had rumpled black hair that was set on his hair in a careless but sexy way. I felt annoyance rush up in my stomach, this man would be arrogant, irritating, and what every girl could ever want.

"Alek, you’re going to take....." she trailed off and looked at me.
"Ama." I supplied. She nodded and faced Alek again.
"Take Ama to the shade, keep her safe there." He sighed and walked forward to grab my arm, he began pulling me towards the exit. I looked back to see a single tear escape from Elise. I knew there was no hope.
