The Menagerie of My Life

Will has been living with a lie. He doesn't know who his real parents are, and he's about a month away from the prom. Many strange things are about to happen before he can finally go out with the girl of his dreams.
Will Xavier had a lot of questions for a teen to ask.
He didn't know why the lights and electronic appliances seemed to fluctuate around him whenever he lost his temper.
He wondered why many of his dreams consisted of seeing random people from the point of view of security cameras.
He wanted to know why he couldn't remember escaping from two dark men in trench coats who had grabbed him from a daycare center at the tender age of six.
He desperately wanted to know who his real parents were.
These questions were what usually occupied his line of thought.
Today, though there was only one question on his mind.

"Why can't I be a man enough to ask a girl to the prom?" He muttered to himself.
Will had been sitting in the school canteen for the past few minutes, trying to brainstorm ideas about the Orion High School's annual prom.
From across the table, his best friend Matt looked up from his iPad. "Maybe it's because you've hardly ever talked to a single girl at this school." He suggested.
"Don't remind me," Will groaned.

It was true, though. Since before he could remember, the importance of his academic life had been something that his mom continuously pressed down on him. Therefore, when puberty hit and he started taking interest in things like chicks, parties, sports, and watching his hot neighbor make out with her boyfriend, (On occasion they did more than just make out.) he found himself lacking with his social skills.
Matt smiled at his friend's frustration, "Chill out, man I’m sure the only reason people here don't talk to you is because they are ignorant and they find you intimidating."

"Huh? What's that supposed to mean?" Will frowned.
Matt rolled his eyes, "Come on, you're tall, muscular, and handsome. Plus, you have that brooding look every time we're in class!"
Will laughed at his friend's description. For a seventeen year old one might say he was quite handsome. After all, you couldn't go wrong with short, blonde hair, blue eyes and a tall, muscular body that made him look anything but dorky.

"Thanks for the advice, man." Will said, getting up from the table. "Maybe I'll finally work up the courage to ask Melissa Rodgers out, after all!"
Matt looked as if he had just been punched in the gut. "Wait, you didn't tell me you were aiming for her!" He cried out, his jaw dropping.
Will clapped a hand to his mouth. "Oops! That shouldn't have come out." With that said, he rushed out of the canteen, leaving a flabbergasted Matt in his wake.
