The Magical Touch of Enid Blyton
An author who created a wonderful new world through her books, Enid Blyton is a woman who continues to inspire readers and writers alike...
As I sat in the garden thinking about the load of homework piled by my class teacher, I longed for some respite from these prolonged study hours. Sitting beneath the large tree, I looked around aimlessly hoping for a solution. Feeling lost and lonely, I pulled at some strands of the grass near my toes. To my amazement, I saw a couple of toadstools springing up in the garden. And suddenly, out of nowhere, appeared brownies dressed in their best attire. A table soon floated from the background and I saw goodies of all kinds appearing on the table! That was some feast as I looked on at the happy brownies who were soon joined by fairies. As I longed to join this feast, I felt my name being called out. I suddenly realized that I was beneath the tree in my own garden and had visualized a beautiful dream and my mom was in search for me! On my lap lay a bestselling book by Enid Blyton...
She was no ordinary writer. She was a creative genius who could weave magic through words. Enid Mary Blyton, a British author, is famous the world over for her bestselling children's stories. Her style of writing always inspires many writers till date.
Enid Blyton has always been my companion since childhood days. And I can safely say, her books occupy the most prominent place on my shelves. The magic of Enid Blyton can be witnessed in any of her books, be it the simple stories written for children about teddy bears and golliwogs or the adventure series that take readers through mysterious lanes!
The first books that really made an impression on my mind was the the Magic Faraway Tree Series. The wonderful adventures that the trio, Jo, Bessie and Fanny go through can keep a reader engrossed for hours! This series is one of the most creatively written ever by Enid Blyton. Jo, Bessie and Fanny and their adventures with Moonface, Mr. Watzisname, Silky and the Saucepan Man in the different lands above the enchanted tree shows the extent of her imagination.
When we speak about Enid Blyton, who can forget The Famous Five series. I honestly sympathize with those children who haven't had the opportunity to read these very interesting series. The adventures of Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy the dog always had me dreaming about mysterious caves by the seaside and delicious food such as scones, sandwiches, honey biscuits and gingerbeer! These books truly indicate her writing abilities that combine mystery with beautiful detailing of the countrysides, secret passages, islands, cottages, picnics etc. George and Timmy of course, often share the limelight and will always be my most favorite characters!
Apart from The Famous Five, Enid Blyton also had another popular series that revolved around the Five Find-Outers and Dog. Frederick Algernon Trotteville, Fatty for short along with Larry, Pip, Daisy, Bets and Buster the dog have their own unique way of solving mysteries. Who can forget Buster always snapping at the heels of the ill mannered Mr. Goon or the yummy treats the Five Find-Outers always have in the village. Somehow these books always made me crave to join the Five Find-Outers and Dog on their adventures! Apart from these adventure series, The Secret Seven was also written on similar lines, but for the younger readers.
Enid Blyton also penned masterpieces such as the Malory Towers and St. Clare's series. Malory Towers is a series that is based on Darell Rivers and her years spent at Malary Towers, a boarding school. These books surely do teach young minds a lot of interesting lessons in a creative fashion. Similarly, St. Clare's is about a boarding school and the story revolves around the twins, Patricia and Isable O'Sullivan. I simply loved the midnight parties and how these girls learn many important lessons that help them to be better individuals.
Noddy, the character created by this genius continues to rule in popularity even today. This is evident in the television shows that are still being aired!
Enid Blyton has always filled my life with magic. Be it her stories that revolved around toys that came to life, or the cute tales about the fairy land, silly Mr. Pink Whistle or Mr. Twiddle or the stories of The Adventurous Four, Enid Blyton always penned wonderful series that left readers asking for more. This author thus proves to be an inspiration due to her creative works. As for me, I will soon visit the bookstore to pick yet another book by Enid Blyton!
