The Last Victim Chapter Sixteen
Why did that happen? How can I be so stupid? I let him go. Oh! Niko, you will be here with me again. Sooner or later I will bring you back here again, with me, where you belong. You are mine. When I decide to have something, I have it and if I can't have it I crush it and break it to pieces. Why Niko, why? I was going to stop killing and live happily with you ever after. There is a bond between us that will never be broken, never. Everything was destroyed because of you, my life turned upside down. I lost my job and I lost my house. I became a runaway convict all because of you. I bet no one will know me now with my blonde hair and green eyes. That's enough disguise at the moment. God bless my mother, hadn't she hid me I was never going to find a place to hide with my picture in the hands of every policeman in the city. My father is still angry, he doesn't speak to me but I'm sure he won't report me to the police. Now I need to hide for a while before striking again. I need to think clearly and decide what to do next.
David's mother entered the room carrying a tray with plenty of food arranged on it.
''Honey, I prepared you something to eat.'' She said with a choking voice.
''Thank you Mom. Wow, my favorite omelet.'' He exclaimed in joy.
She placed the tray before him and watched him eating. He was still her baby no matter what they say about him.
''Davy.''
''Yeah.'' He answered with a full mouth.
''Did you do these things they said on TV?''
''Yeah I did.'' He answered without looking at her.
She bit her lower lip and couldn't help tears gushing out and streaming on her face.
''Mom, what was done can never be undone.''
''But we can save what can be saved at least.'' A female voice came from behind. A female voice he recognized so well and missed so much. His big sister Anette. He turned around and ran to her. They hugged and kissed for minutes before sitting down on the sofa.
''Hey Anette, I can see some white hairs here and there and you put on some weight! But you are still beautiful as you always were.''
''Stop beating around the bush and let us talk about you.''
''What?''
''David, I'm a lawyer, you are in a very delicate situation.'' She said seriously.
''I am not talking about this.''
''David ...listen to me, I will try to do my best.''
''What? What are you talking about? Don't you watch TV? Aren't you aware of what I've done? There is nothing you can do about it. Absolutely nothing.''
''Why did you do this?'' she said, sobbing.
He glanced daggers at her, rushed outside and slammed the door behind him.
''He got himself into this mess Anette and there is nothing we can do.'' Her father declared firmly.
''This is all because of you!'' she screamed through her tears.
''Me?'' he asked in bewilderment. ''I've done everything to help him be a good person all his life, how could I have a hand in this?''
''I told you he needs mental check! I told you both that I've seen him killing our neighbors' dog, I told you that he killed my kittens and you knew about Alex who is spending the rest of his life on a wheelchair. You knew that there was something wrong with his mind but your ego didn't allow you to believe that you have a mentally ill son, you could have saved dozens of lives if you listened to me!''
Lukas looked at her stunned and the room was invaded by silence except for the mother's sobbing.
