The Last Victim Chapter 23

There was a loud knock on the door at 2:00 am. Anette rushed to the door with fear and said out loud ''Who is that?'' and looked throw the peep hole. It was David standing outside.
''Open up Anette!'' he said nervously.
She opened the door and let him in.
''David! What have you done? I've watched the news today!''
He said totally ignoring her statement '' I need to hide here for a while.''
''The police came here today, maybe I'm watched now.''
''Don't worry, I made sure that no one has seen me coming here.''
''David what are you planning to do?'' she said suspiciously.
''I jus.. I just need to stay here for a few days, ok?''
''Ok, but I want to know what are you going to do?''
''I haven't decided what I'm going to do next but I'm sure I'll need your help.''
She sat on the chair next to him and said ''David, I can help you escape out of the country and start a new life somewhere else.''
''I can't.''
''What do you mean you can't?'' she said angrily.
''I have to finish the job.''
''What job?''
''Niko.''
''Oh for God's sake David! You will be caught David, it's a matter of time, I'm offering you a chance to escape! Leave the boy alone he's had enough already!''
''They will not leave me alone!'' he yelled.
''Who?''
''The voices.''
''What do you mean David?''
He pointed to his head and said ''Here, the voices here they will never leave me alone! I have to carry out their orders.''
She knelt on the floor in front of him and said emphatically ''David, don't play games with me! You've killed people! You raped and tortured them and ended their lives aren't you aware of that?''
''The more pain I created, the more I know about the secrets of life.'' He said proudly.
''You are not making any sense. You kill for lust and you know that!''
''Anette, are you going to make me stay or you will kick me out like what your father did?''
''Of course you will stay.'' She said impatiently. She agreed to make him stay maybe she can convince him to escape. No matter what he'd done, he was still his brother and wanted to save him, like she always did.

Brandon walked in Stephen's office and poured himself a cup of coffee. Stephen was reading David's diary intently.
''Anything new?''
''We have the victim , we have the evidence we still don't have the criminal.'' Stephen muttered.
''We are in a tough situation in the face of the public. We need to catch him as soon as possible.''
''Have you interviewed his family again?''
''Yes, his father said that he went to them asking for shelter but he kicked him out..''
''What about his sister?''
''We went to her house with a search warrant, we turned the place upside down and he was not there, we are watching her 24 hours a day.''
'' He is visionary lust sadistic killer, he is organized, he has to finish with Niko first before he moves on. His mother told me that his father used to hit him if he started a task without finishing the previous task.''
''So the lesson learned here, don't hit your children?'' Brandon said sarcastically.
''There are millions of people out there who've been beaten by their parents and they didn't turn out to sadistic serial killers.'' Stephen said seriously.
''At least we know now that if we protect Niko well, there will be no more victims till we catch him.''
''Have you thought about using Niko as a decoy? He must be watching him from a distance.''
''Yes, we are working on a plan and we will execute it as soon as possible.'' Brandon said.
''There is no room for mistakes, we have to do the best of our best.''
