The Last Thoughts (End of Chapter 3)
Please read the start of Chapter 3 to cope up with the story. A loud moment of truth that would affect the scenes of the next chapters.
I made a good deal with myself after what happened last night, just to haul up myself. And I know it’s a pretty difficult thing. I have to avoid her. That’s the deal. Since we’re still living in one roof… Sure, I’m embarrassed with myself… And more to her… I don’t know if I can still look at her straight in the eyes without that throbbing guilt.
Sam was appalled because I hadn’t taken my breakfast. And for the first time in the history, I shut myself in my room the whole morning… To loosen him up, I decided to end my hiding, and instead face what I have to face. I invited Sam to play Tennis with me, that he was so enthusiastic with… With the little hope I have of not seeing Carmer, I was disappointed when she’d show up that moment. I tried so hard to avoid her in most casual way not to offend her. Her hair was ruffled, and her face was wet with sweat from laundering. She was excited to know that Sam and I will be playing, and made a deal. The loser has to treat us a night out.
The match wasn’t that viable. Sam doesn’t play well. However, it was amusing. Carmer kept on cheering favoring ‘me’ and bantering Sam to the extent that he became so wound up, that hit the ball drastically and sometimes meant to her. Eventually, the game has ended, and Sam has to treat us.
Carmer never stops commenting on Sam’s look as we’re in the car. Its first time for Sam to wear denims and shirt apparel under a hooded cotton jacket that made him looked like in early twenties. That Carmer kept on saying from time to time after an intentional scrutiny. Sam just kept on winced at her, requesting her to stop. And it’s my first time to see Sam uncomfortable, yet thrilled with himself. I admire how Carmer makes an irate person to blithe.
Carmer suggested a ‘videoke/karaoke’ bar that Sam hesitated at once. He doesn’t have the heart for singing or the talent at all, but Carmer had persuaded us. Carmer’s drunk us we headed home. She only has drunk five shots of tequila! We didn’t know she’s that weak to alcohol. In the car, sitting in the passenger seat, her voice filling the air as she chants loudly the ‘Crazy For You’. Sam, on the other hand is quite tipsy laying his head on the back of backseat with eyes close.
I glance to Carmer who suddenly fell silent. At last she’s dead beat. Her face is all red because of the alcohol she’d take. And like I said earlier, she’s more beautiful when she blush. I released a slight grin when I remember how silly she was in the karaoke bar. She sang almost all the song. Her voice is awful! Out of tune! I am not sure if she knows it and she just have the gut. I chuckled.
"It seems that you’re quite fascinated with our zany girl here, Francis." Sam suddenly uttered from the backseat eying me suspiciously. I thought he fell asleep. Now, I can hear Carmer’s low snores.
"Fascinated. I-I have to be fair with my judgment." I responded.
"Serious feelings sometimes start with fascination if not nuisance…" He said with firm in the voice.
"I thought you’re tipsy…"
"I’m just tipsy, Francis, but not blind."
"I am maybe fascinated with her, but that’s all." I said attentively. I don’t want Sam to create some ridiculous imaginations in his mind, out of this fascination! I am just fascinated because she’s too peculiar to every person I’ve met… I never met someone like her before.
I carried Carmer to her room once we reached the house. Sam, a little groggy, just followed us quietly. He helped to position Carmer on the bed. As he took her shoes, she suddenly released a low laugh. We halted at once to look at her. Her eyes still close.
"I…knnnnnnnnew…ssssomething!" And she laughed again.
Sam just looked at her disgusted. "YOU!" She pointed me, and laughed again… "I dreamt llllast night….. T-that YOU!" She pointed me again. "You kissed me." And she sighed, and she was uncomfortable for a moment, and hesitated like she’s aware. "Bbut I knnnow, ittt’s true! RIGHT!... Coz it felt real…" and she sighed again.
Sam and I exchanged look. Both shock and ruffled. I didn’t know what exactly is happening to me. But sweats start to drain me. As Sam look at me discerning face….
