The Last of the Dragon Line - Chapter 1

I know there isn't any love or romance in this, but it will be added soon. Which is why it's in this section.
"I just don't know what you want me to say." Her head was spinning from the drugs they pumped her with. They were supposed to help her relax. She scoffed. More like keep her sedated. They were afraid of her. She didn't know why but she could sense it in the way they approached her and kept at a distance. She found it amusing.

The man breathed a sigh. "I want you to remember what you are. It is not that difficult." Amara turned her head to the window. She could hear him pacing back and forth impatiently. This would be the third time this week he had gotten the same response. He obviously was unhappy she could sense this from the way he rubbed his hands together restlessly.

"I am who I am." The door suddenly crashed open and a man in an immaculate suit and sunglasses came in with a little girl.
"They say the monster is in here. All I see here is a lady bound up!" The little girl stomped her foot and pouted at the man in the sunglasses. The man bent over and murmured a few words in her ear. The little girl broke into a grin from ear to ear. She walked over and did a once over.

"You do not look like a dragon to me." The little girl poked her in the arm. "Did you feel that?"
Amara glared at the little girl. "If there is one thing I feel right now it is that you are annoying."
The little girl crossed her arms over her chest and tapped her foot. "You may not be a dragon but you have a foul attitude." She turned on her heels and snapped her fingers at the man in sunglasses. They left and Amara sighed and wiggled her wrists around in their cuffs.
"I want to leave." The man snickered. He actually snickered the bastard. She scowled at the man as if she could drill a hole in his face. "You want me to answer questions yet give me no answers to my own questions." She rolled her eyes. "You have to give to get."

"You will leave when you give us the answers we so desire." The man came over and ran a finger over her shoulder. "I am what you would call the 'good cop' the people who will come after me... Will not be so patient and well how could you say," he stopped and smirked, "gentle."

Amara shuddered in revulsion and twisted her head away. "I will tell them the same thing I've been telling you. I am not some supernatural freak. I am Amara Decoct. My parents are deceased and I can't remember anything else."
The man walked over to the window and looked out as if something surprised him. "Don't you find it strange that you can't remember anything?"
Amara sneered in his direction. "No, not really. Seeing as you are pumping with me god knows what."

The man ambled over to the door and propped back. "Well these answers will just not do my dear. It has been my pleasure to see you in person though." Suddenly the door opened and three men in the same gray matching suits walked in. "You boys will be gentle with her won't you?" He smirked. "Of course you won't." He turned and looked at her. "Good luck my dear. Good day." With those words he turned and left the room.

"You will answer whatever questions we ask." The one to left said. "You will not on the other hand ask us any questions." The one to the right said. "In asking us a question or denying us a real answer you will be punished severely." The one in the middle said.
Amara's heart began to pick up. "Who are you people?" They all scowled and suddenly the man in the middle walked forward and placed a hand on her head. Intense pain flared in between her temples and she screamed as she felt flames lick over her skin scorching her until her bone showed. She was about to beg for death to come when the pain went away and the man stepped back.

"You will learn to obey the rules." The man stepped back and the three approached her forming a ring. They each put a hand on her. One hand on her left shoulder and another on her right shoulder. The man in the middle laid a hand on the nape of her neck. "Since you cannot ask questions we will give you the basics of who we are and what we do." Amara closed her eyes and tried to settle her upset stomach. "We are called the truth seekers. We each have a skill that helps us get the truth from people. By the end of our session you will have told us what you know. We will find the truth and then your fate will be decided."

"Now we will start." The one with his hand on her left shoulder moved in front of her and gazed into her eyes. She felt like she was falling into a dark place. A place where there was no escape. She felt like she had to look into his sapphire eyes to stay sane. "Now Amara, you will answer my questions truthfully, won't you?" Amara felt herself nodding with him. His voice was like velvet. Soft and alluring.

"What are you?" Amara felt the words flow from her mouth as if she always knew. "I am the last offspring of the dragon people." The man broke eye contact with her for a moment to look in the man to her rights eyes. "Does she speak the truth?" The man to the right nodded and he returned his gaze to Amara. "How did your parents die?" Amara squirmed at the question. "I don't know." Pain shot through her neck swift and painful. She arched her back and dug her nails into the chair screaming in agony. "That is enough. You will kill her before we are done." The pain lessened but she could still feel it lingering ready to chastise her if she messed up again. "Does she tell the truth?" The man in front of her asked to the man to the right. He squinted his eyes closed and then opened them." The girl tells the truth. There seems to be a problem. Her answers come to me hazy. They look as if her mind has been tampered with. So if she tells me an answer it is what they would want her to say. This girl's mind is no longer her own." The men all withdrew their hands and stepped back frowning at her.

"You are very fascinating Amara. I will give you the answers to three questions of yours. Choose wisely though."

Amara sat up hesitantly and searched her mind for three good questions. "What am I?" The man who stood to her right searched for the answer. "You are the last offspring of a very powerful line of women. You are gifted with a fire within that keeps your essence alive. You are a dragon." Amara bit her lip. She knew she wasn't normal but hearing it from this man, made it seem even more real. "Will they ever let me leave this place?" The men all stared at her and then they looked at each other. When they were done having whatever conversation they were having the same man spoke. "You will die here if you do not escape." Amara took a deep breath. She already knew the answer but she had to hear someone say it. She had to escape somehow... "How did my parents die?" The man looked slightly surprised at the last question. "They died protecting you from a very dangerous man who is trying to kill you. You are a very powerful dragon Amara. People will lie to you and use you for their own gain. You can trust no one in this life but you must also continue the line."

Amara gaped at him in disbelief. "You're telling me I have to have sex with someone but I can't trust them? Yeah, that makes sense."
The man tilted his head to the left. "You are strange. I was expecting you to ask how you could escape but instead you asked about your parent's death. Why?"

Amara shrugged and looked out of the window. "Maybe I was tired of not knowing about their death. Maybe I was tired of thinking they died this way or that way. Now I know the truth. Thank you. I know I can't ask anymore questions." The men all murmured something and the locks snapped open and dropped to the floor. Amara gasped and shot to her feet. She wobbled for a minute then looked at the window. "You'll get in trouble won't you?" The three men smiled at her and warmth and calm set over her. "You will find that we are famous for getting our way. What we do is for the future."

Amara dragged the chair over to the window and yanked off the locks with what seemed like inhuman strength. I guess the drugs wore off huh? "You can tell the future?" The men looked at each other again then back at her. "We can tell that you are a very important piece to the future of mankind. You will be remembered for centuries after you're dead."

Amara nodded and jumped onto the chair. She opened the window and looked at the men one last time. "Thank you. I won't forget what you've done for me here." They all bowed in unison then walked out of the door. Amara squeezed out of the window and breathed in the fresh air. I have a long journey ahead of me.
