The Last Fury. Part III

I Once Had A Normal Life, I Once Was A Normal Teenager Like You. That Was Until I Noticed Strange Things Happening To Me. Now I Am One Of The Last Remaining Furies
Vampires. They who taunt me. They say the pain, it can all end in one bite. But I remain the last Fury, I must remain strong.

I woke up some hours later with Leaf still beside me.
I smiled lazily to myself, as I lay snug as toast in my blankets.
I closed my eyes for a couple of minutes before opening them again. I looked from my window to my ceiling fan. Something was wrong.
Both were closed and locked.
Yet my room was freezing cold.

I got up and looked outside my window, it was cloudy, but still a sunny day.
It didn’t make sense.
Rubbing my arms, I went to my wardrobe and pulled out a jumper
And headed downstairs.

As I passed though the lounge room, to the dinning room, into the kitchen I noticed the rooms had steadily gone colder.
Looking into the kitchen I saw mum, sitting at the table in the shadows.
I walked over; I realized that as I sat down infront of her she hadn’t looked up,
Or twitched, or even blinked.
She was just staring at the pattern imbedded into the table.
I waved my hand infront of her face still she didn’t even blink.

I lifted her chin up to face me, I flinched.
Her skin was once again so cold it burned, her eyes were pale as they rose and met mine.
"What I have I done?" she whispered hollowly.
"Mum?" I asked confused, "What did you do?"
but I had responded too late. Her mind had already drifted off, I could her feel her body was an empty shell as my thoughts suddenly lurched to dad.
I had a horrible feeling something bad had happened to him.

I knocked over my chair and raced back upstairs.
I thought for a moment about checking on Leaf, but discarded the thought
As my stomach clenched.
Their room was almost as cold as the kitchen itself, if not colder.
Dad was still asleep curled up with his blankets pulled up to his neck.
I walked over to him, standing a couple of paces away. Sudden fear gripped me.
There was a type of emptiness that surrounded dad, instead of his usual warm and protective glow.

Puling the sheets down a fraction I found two puncture wounds on the side of his neck, both still having blood around them.
"D-dad?" I whispered taking a step back.
"Ember." I jumped at my name. Turning around I found mum standing in the middle of the room as an unnerving sight.
She was still in her nightgown, her eyes a glow as her long hair dancing around her head.
The sight of her made Goosebumps trail up my arms and neck.

"What happened?" I demanded, "What happened to dad?"
"He’s dead. They killed him." She replied calmly.
Dead? I couldn’t believe it. No way.
"Mummy, Why is it so cold?" asked a new voice.
We both looked over to see a sleepy Leaf walk in rubbing her eye.
The coldness suddenly gave out, mums eyes returned to normal, as did her hair, as mum rushed over to embrace Leaf.
Now I was seriously confused.
But there was no doubt Leaf saw her mother using magic.

I stepped back over to dad; I pressed my two forefingers together to his neck.
There was no pulse.
Like mum said, dad was dead.

Whatever she did to him, dad would never wake up again.
I couldn’t believe it. He was my best friend. I told him things even my friends didn’t know about. He was my safe harbor. And now he’s gone.
What was going to happen now?

For the time being I did what any normal daughter would do after finding
Out her father is dead.
I slumped on the bed to wrap my arms around the cold, lifeless body.
And cried.

Leaf looked over at me, startled she whispered, "Dad?"
I couldn’t bare seeing her upset, so deprived of her father at such a young age.
Those tears were all I could spare as anguish raged up inside of me.
I had to get Leaf away from mum, at least until we know the whole story.
I rushed over to them and pulled Leaf out of her embrace.
I gripped mums arms as firmly as I could without hurting her.
"It wasn’t my fault." She said shakily.
I lowered her into the chair next to the door.
"It wasn’t my fault." She said a little louder.
"Stop saying that!" I almost shouted, "What happened to dad?" I asked darkly saying it slowly.

I saw a blur race over towards dad’s side.
"No dada, dada wake up. Please dad, wake up." She was crying, attempting to
Wake him up. She looked back at mum and screamed, "Why wont dada wake up?"
I left mum and went to Leaf, who got up as I approached.
Together we fell to fall, Leaf in my arms as she cried, my tears mixed with hers.
I looked at mum, she sat there deathly pale.

"Please mum." I begged sending out calm, soothing vibes.
I picked up Leaf and cradled her as I walked back to mum.
She was taking deep breaths. And told us what happened.

The first word she said was; Vampires.
Vampires are the worst enemy for a Fury.
One bite, one scratch and they clam the right to change you.
What happened to dad was just a warning.

More than a 500 years ago, there was a war.
Fury vs. Vampire.
In that war the Fury lost their homeland and fled to take sanctuary in whatever realm that
Could help hide and support them.
All was peaceful until the last 25 years.
The Vampires began traveling, flushing out the remaining Fury and killing them.

"They know I'm here, they know your beginning your majority. I don’t wont you to become a Fury Ember, because sooner or later you’ll be attacked by the Vampires.
Their powers are strong, the more the Vampires, the more power they control.
The bigger threat they become.
I don’t know how many Fury are left. I fled before the war began fearing for my life and those of my family. We came to Earth in hope for a peaceful life.
We lived together for the first 30 years before separating, deeming it was safe enough."

I nodded my head, understanding.
So mum was over 500 years old. Damn.
I looked down at Leaf who rest her head in my lap. Her eyes wide.
Seeing my gaze she too nodded her head.

"What do we do know?" I asked mum.
If the Vampires were as scary as mum thought they were, we had better not stay here to see if they attack again.
"We will leave for the Stargazer realm. There we will be safe." She looked directly at me, "There you will decide if you wish to learn your powers. Or return to earth."
"What about dad?" Leaf whispered.
"We will mourn for him, then bury him, then rest." Her eyes had turned blue again, tears formed as she looked towards the body of her beloved husband.
In all the years she had been on Earth, never has she found a man she loved as much as Robert.

It already seemed as if the day was over.
We sat there for another 20 minutes in utter silence before going our separate ways to mourn the one we loved.
