The Lake House; Chapter Seven
I opened my eyes and the whole room is dark. I looked over at the clock and it's blinking 1:30. Shit, it's blinking? The power must be out. I look up at Parker and he's still fast asleep with his arms wrapped around me. I smile to myself thinking about dancing in the rain, and the events that followed. I slowly slid out from his embrace, as to not wake him and walk over to the doors. His sweatshirt is on the floor so I throw it on and walk out to the patio. The time after it rains is one of my favorite moments. Everything is quiet and peaceful. Every little drop of rain that has been left behind catches the sunlight coming in from behind the clouds and makes the backyard look like its twinkling. I inhale deeply, the scent of the rain and the lake cloud my head. I'm leaving in two weeks and here I am, standing on the patio of the house of the kid that I've had a crush on since I was 14. I feel someone's arms wrap around my waist, spin me around and pick me up.
"Mornin Parker." I say with a smile.
"Morning Sky, do you know what time it is?"
"Nah, go check my phone."
He smiles, "You ok?"
"Perfect." I laugh. He turned around and went inside. I went down to the dock and sat on the edge. I hear him jogging over and turn around to him in basketball shorts, his brown hair slightly messed up and his eyes illuminated. I've never seen him look like this, like everything is going right and it made me smile because well, maybe I did this to him. He slides down next to me.
"It's 6, do you want to eat?" Just then my stomach growls. "I guess that's a yes." He starts laughing, we get up and race back to the house.
"Ohhhhhh and Skyler loses. Looks like she's making dinner."
"You jerk, you cheated."
"Well I won didn't I?"
"Yea, yea fine."
****************************
"That was incredible. You made that pizza from scratch?" Parker leans back in his chair, apparently stuffed.
"Yup, and since I cooked you clean!" I say with a laugh.
His sits straight and looks me in the eye. "Never."
"Oh yes you will." I get up and walk away.
"Curse you and your amazing cooking Skyler!" I can't help but laugh. I peek around the corner and he's looking at all the dishes in the sink with the most frustrated look on his face.
"Do you really not know how to do dishes?" I ask, walking back in.
"I do too, I just don't know where to start."
I sigh, "Fine, I'll help." We started doing the dishes, I'd wash and rinse them, he'd dry them and put them away.
"So, what're you gunna do at school?" He asks, looking at me out of the corner of his eyes. I stopped washing and looked over.
"What do you mean? I'm gunna study, party and everything else." I reply laughing.
"I meant about dudes, do you need to make this difficult?"
Hmm, that's a good question. I was planning on dating and meeting guys, but not having sex with them. I'm just not interested in it if I'm not in love ya know? I look up at Parker and suddenly, I don't know.
"I'm not saying we should be serious or anything because I want you to love college and get the most out of it, but are you gunna come visit me?"
I look down at the plate in my hand, rinsed it off and handed it to him.
"Yes Parker, I'm going to come visit. And as far as other dudes go, well I don't know. I wasn't planning on getting serious at school, at least not my first year and I'm not planning on sleeping with anyone."
"Well, sometimes you don't plan. I wasn't planning on it." He says with a smile. I immediately turn bright red and turn around.
"Hey hey hey, come here." He turns me back to face him and lifts my chin so I'm looking into his eyes. "But, I'm glad I did. You're not like the girls at school Sky, they don't make me feel the way you do."
"Yea sureeee, look at you being all smooth." I say with a sarcastic edge. "I dunno Park, we'll see what happens over time."
"Fine, but you gotta come visit me." I look up and he seems genuine about it.
"If you insist." I smile. He's going to be one tough act to follow. We finally finish up the dishes after an epic water fight.
"Can I go shower now?" I ask him in my sweetest voice.
"Only if I can join." I take his hand and lead him up the stairs. He picks me up and starts running up the next flight.
"No Parker No!" I say laughing. I had a crush on him all through high school, but now? Now I'm falling for him, and I'm falling hard.
"Mornin Parker." I say with a smile.
