The Kingdom

This poem is my modest description of a battle between good and evil. The scenario is typically heroic wherein the enemies outnumber the brave soldiers and yet the righteous prevail. This poem also tries to envisage the hardships, hopes, faith, love and yearnings of these heroes as they march towards inevitable war. I am not a poet but yet I have tried to put in the best of my efforts here.
On the threshold of paradise
Amidst the sea of hopes
There lies a kingdom……
Road towards it is weary
The by lanes dry
The tired eyes dreary
For a place to lie...

Broken promises not meant to be
Nobody’s intent yet everyone’s dream
Fate winds up for a forfeited battle
While the heart bleeds and courage shatter
No sane man’s sanctity
Yet an overwhelming fear of insanity
As we go beyond the forbidden line
The thought provoking a haunting rhyme

On the threshold of paradise
Amidst the sea of hopes
There lies a kingdom……
Road towards it is weary
The by lanes dry
The tired eyes dreary
For a place to lie...

The Road goes on endless as ever
Arrows converge all sharp and quiver
Despite this a ray of light
Not from our own but a stranger’s might
Forget the torrid dreams, forget the wind strong
While the company is true, nothing can go wrong
And so we pass into the wild
Realization strikes….man is no more a child
Heads held high we march forwards
The haunting tone strong as we reach the borders….

On the threshold of paradise
Amidst the sea of hopes
There lies a kingdom……
Road towards it is weary
The by lanes dry
The tired eyes dreary
For a place to lie...

Tearful eyes take a breath of joy
The War is near but the soldiers are no ploy
The heat threatens to smother
But we hold on to each other
One more step…one more mile
One task is done…we can rest awhile
Bring on the weed…bring in the wine
Tonight we celebrate together we dine
From dawn to dusk till the bell chime
A little more sleep a little more time
Until the sword calls its soldier
A little more while to hold her
Within the dreams or in your arms
Until the foul air swarms

On the threshold of paradise
Amidst the sea of hopes
There lies a kingdom……
Road towards it is weary
The by lanes dry
The tired eyes dreary
For a place to lie...

Space and time cease their march
The enemy is ready…their numbers are large
Knees weak but hearts sublime
The sword is lifted up one last time
Metal clashes as silence is raped
Wrath unleashed and hope is strayed
The red moon rises amidst the purple sky
As blood is spilled one wonders why
Suddenly it dawns upon the weary pawn
This is not the end…again the swords are drawn
Wounded we may be but yet we fight
Because glory is righteous.. God is Might
A moment of pain…a flash of agony
Then the tide turns fearful is the enemy
Their armor is bloodied and their faces flushed
The soldiers have risen…the kings are ambushed
The red dawn strikes like God’s fury divine
The enemy is vanquished into the deadly ravine
Hopes are conquered…Promises rebuilt
Men rejoice… we have broken the guild
As we approach the gates rusted black
One last time I look back

On the threshold of paradise
Amidst the sea of hopes
We will form a kingdom……
The Road is no longer weary
The by lanes no more dry
The eyes have a glint of joy
For we have found a place to lie...
