The Key to Night (Chapter 5)
"Did I want to be turned into a vampire?" Shantae asked herself. No, she did not. So when she is captured by the Hunters, the person she least expects to save her is Lucas, their leader.
Sorry that it has taken so long for me to get this finally typed and posted. I have had it half written in my notebook for a couple weeks now, but my life is hectic. Hope you enjoy and vote in the poll that is near the bottom of the page.

Shantae opened the door with a profound sense of wariness. She couldn’t think who would bother her at the time in the middle of day. It wouldn’t be Merrick, even though he felt the need to be a pain in her butt, he knew that in the long run, things ran more smoothly when he left her alone until after dusk.
When she saw the doctors assistant on the other side of the door, with his hand raised to knock again, she was surprised.
"You said to let you know when the test results were in," the man said in a scared voice. Shantae rubbed her face, resigned. She hadn’t thought that they would be in so soon.
She took a step back into her room, pulling the door with her. "Come in while I change clothes." She then turned, starting towards her clothes room, not caring if he followed or not. Shantae came back out wearing a light blue sweater and comfortable jeans with sneakers. Merrick had always tried to persuade her to buy more outfits and accessories but she liked the old and well worn to the new and scratchy.
She pulled out seat at the same table she and Merrick had talked at last night and sat down. She sighed. "So what were the results?"
The assistant’s hands shook as he opened a folder that he had brought in with him. "Well the blood tests were all conclusive that nothing is wrong. However, they also show that you are very… that you are in need of more nourishment than you normally would. Doctor Haishen also prescribed that you take this for a couple days just to play it safe," he said handing her a sheet full of little purple liquid packets.
"Is that all?" Shantae asked as she looked dubiously at the packets.
"He also said that you would need to come in for more testing, to make sure that nothing pops up, as soon as you have taken all of these. He-he also said that you should stay in bed and rest until that time."
At the stutter in his voice, Shantae looked up. " Is that all?" she asked again while watching his expression closely. As he nodded his agreement, she noticed that his eyes were somewhere beyond her. He was holding out from her. She got up and went around the table until she was directly behind him. Waiting until he turned around to look at her, she leaned down until they were eye to eye.
" Now what did he really say, hm? Word for word," she said as she hypnotized him.
"He-he said that maybe the medicine would work this time and you would go-go on to fulfill your d-duties and make an h-heir with Merrick," Stuttering more the longer he talked.
"Very well, now. You shall not remember this conversation." She then walked back around the table and sat down, picking up the packets as she waited for the hypnosis to wear off.
"I’m sorry what were we talking about?"
"You were telling me how often and how to take these packets," she said as if nothing had happened.
"You are supposed to take them 2 times a day with your morning and nightly meals. Just pour them into your cup and drink all of it. You are to start them tonight, when you would usually be waking up."
"Ok, you can go now," Shantae said as she once again stood. " I need my beauty rest."
"Yes, yes, of course," he said as he hustle all the papers back into the folder. "Goodnight," he said as he practically ran out her bedroom door.
Shantae sighed again. I was going to be a long night.
