Dogs in nature are pack animals. They consider their selves as member of the pack as well as those whom they regularly interact. Of course, packs have leaders and dogs naturally surrender their selves to that leader of the pack for guidance and leadership. Since domestic dogs do not usually interact with other dogs, he considers the family members as well as the owners as his pack.
