The Invasion - Chapter 2
If you also read Marks I have a small note, you should read at the end of this chapter!
"This," he pointed to a door with the numbers A 233 in big letters," is your room."
I reached for the handle and was gripped it in my palms.
"Wait, before you go in I want to show you the showers and where my room is," he placed his warm hand over mine, stalling me from turning the handle.
He removed his hand from mine but it didn't stop the warm feeling that flooded through me.
"Okay," I said, slightly shaky and released the handle.
We walked down a poorly light hallway and made a sharp turn to the right where Nick pointed out the shower rooms.
"I'm directly across the showers, room A 264," he patted a wooden door across from the bathrooms.
"I will drop off all of your new things tomorrow. You get a toothbrush, razor, three pairs of clothes, deodorant, a small bottle of lotion, rubber bands, toothpaste, and a few other things," he opened his door, sending me a clear message it was time to leave.
"Okay, thanks for showing me around," I attempted to give him a smile but failed miserably, dropping my lips to a grimace instead.
"We start tomorrow at five," he said and closed the door in my face.
I frowned and glared at the wooden door. He was rude. I walked to my room slowly but quickened my pace when I heard loud laughter booming down the hallway. I didn't want a run-in with anybody right now. It just wasn't the time. I opened my door and quickly shut it, locking the bolt before falling on my bed with a big umpth.
******************************************
Sharp knocks on the door woke me up and I rubbed my eyes, sliding my feet off the bed and onto the floor.
"Sara! Open the damn door!" Nick's angry voice sent my stumbling to the door in a hast.
"Sorry, what time is it?" I asked once I had finally opened the door.
"Five ten. I've been knocking on your door for like fifteen minutes," he barged right in, and closed the door leaving me in a confused daze.
He threw a bag on my bed and I walked to it slowly.
"You move like a damn turtle," he complained and I shot him an annoyed look.
"I'll move slower if you don't shut the fuck up," I threatened and he laughed, a nice deep sound.
"Cranky in the morning. Great," his sarcastic voice made me roll my eyes and open the bag.
Inside was everything that he said would be in it plus feminine products and a few other random things.
"Clothes," he said and I reached for a random pair of folded clothes.
I made my way to the bathroom and stripped off my old, dirty clothes changing them for my new clothes. I quickly splashed water on my face and used the restroom before walking out in my fresh clothes. I searched in the bag for a rubber band, toothbrush, toothpaste, and deodorant.
"You have fifteen minutes until we leave," he said, laying on my bed with his arm over his eyes.
I rushed to the bathroom quickly pulling my hair up, putting deodorant on, and brushing the morning breath out of my mouth.
"Done," I said as I tied my last shoe and hopped out of the bathroom.
"Good," he responded, getting off the bed and opened my door.
"Breakfast awaits, my darling," he held the door open for me and I shot him a dirty look.
"Let's roll, sweet pea," I grabbed his hand and made our conjoined hands swing widely.
He chuckled and squeezed my hand, sending a delicious warm feeling up my arm. Breakfast was an apple, milk, and cold oatmeal.
Yum. Nick ate within two minutes, afterward rushing me to finish my meal. I managed to choke it all down fairly quickly and we headed off to "My work" as Nick referred to it. "My work" turned out to be cooking meals for the men that worked in the fields all day.
"I feel like I'm living with the Amish," I told Nick before he left me and he rolled his brown eyes, patting my back and then leaving me alone with all the other women. I quickly found a place among them, making sandwiches. Tons and tons of sandwiches.
******************************************
I wolfed down my meal, quickly gulping my orange juice. It was three in the afternoon and thankfully we had finished cooking lunch (which was currently being served), dinner, and breakfast for the next day.
"You're helping the sister of an alien lover!" A male voice yelled and I heard Nick's voice call the man several mean names.
"You fucking back off, Nick," the male continued to shout and I followed the crowd of people to where Nick and a man around my age were standing nose to nose.
"You yell one more fucking time and I swear to God I will break your fucking nose, don't test me, Waver," Nick's voice was dangerously low and I felt my body stiffen.
"I will yell whenever I feel like," the man was cut off by a hard punch to his nose delivered by Nick.
He stumbled back, cupping his bleeding nose with his hands and muttering curse words.
"Nick!" I yelled, astonished that he had actually hit the man.
"Time to train," he said his voice tight as he grabbed my upper arm and lead me away from the crowd of people.
"Nick, calm down," I stopped walking and he fixed his ice-cold eyes on mine.
"I'm doing a favor for your sister. I can drop you anytime I want, you hear me?" He asked and my eyes widened slightly.
"D-drop me?" I asked, my voice went a pitch higher.
Would he leave me here without anybody to help me? I didn't know anybody and from what that man said earlier to Nick I got the feeling I wasn't well liked because of my sister.
"I -," I ran my hand across the top of my head and played with the tips of my hair that were in my ponytail.
I twirled my hair around my finger and he sighed, his breath blowing across my face.
"Can we just get on with training?" He asked and took a step back from me.
"I'm sorry, Nick," my voice came out small and weak sounding.
He didn't say anything and turned walking toward a big building labeled, "Training Room."
