Chapter 1.
"Eeekkk!" Meg squeaked. Sweat beaded her forehead causing hair to plaster to her head. Her shaking hand clawed at her right eye.
"Meg!" loud footsteps thudded; her bedroom door flew open. A young man ran to her.
"Meg, Meg, please wake-up! Please!" he begged to her; shaking her shoulders with desperation.
"My-my eye!" she shouted in terror. He ripped her hand away from her eye and hugged her. Wanting to rock the pain away.
"It's okay; that was a long time ago. Not now; it's okay." He brushed his lips against her chocolate colored hair.
"I'm not, anymore. I'm not-."
"Meg, Meg! You're someone! Meg Shire!"
She groaned.
"Meg, listen to me! You are a person! You're pretty, beautiful, smart, kind. Everything Meg! Megan, please!"
"You think so?" her eyes fluttered; one a clear blue and the other a normal brown. She barely woke up to his loud ranting.
"Y-yes, of course." He muttered.
"You think I'm beautiful?" she said blushful.
"yeah." He answered slowly then hurried on. "What were you dreaming about?"
"I ..... Well I forgot. Maybe some horror story." She rubbed her neck vigorously. Annoyed that she didn't know; but he may have. "Why did you run in here anyway?"
"You don't remember-well you probably don't. You were screaming."
"About what?" confusion and suspicion leaked into her words.
"Well-um-about your eye." he wanted to be straight forward about it but he didn't want her to be reminded about it. She paused not knowing what to say. Many emotions surged though her; scared, confused, unwanted, unsocial. He watched as all of it played across her well-defined face.
"sorry." He said though not having a reason to apologize; just because she was sad and he didn't know how to comfort her.
"Noah, can I just go back to bed?"
"yeah." He got up to leave. "And um Meg?" he stopped facing the door; shadows darkening his silhouette. "You know I care about you. You're cared about and; well, that was a long time, over ten years ago." He stuttered not feeling like he was helping her at all.
"Yeah... Thanks; and good night Noah." She shifted feeling uncomfortable. "I care about you too; Noah." She whispered has he stepped forward.
"Then don't do this Meg." He said lowly; walking out of the room and closing the door behind him.
"But I want to know." Meg said to herself feeling unreal. "I want to know who caused me so much pain. I need to know. I-I've worked so hard; and to not know?"
The question lingered on. Burning into her brain. 'not knowing scared her.
