The Heart of the Pool

Pool Pumps is probably the most important part of swimming pools. Its main function is to get the water to pass through the filters so the water can get cleaned and be reused. How exactly does it do that? Read on to know how.

An electric motor powers an impeller within the pipes of the pump. An impeller is a rotor that brings fluid into motion. The water, as motivated by the impeller, is sucked into drains, flowed through pipes, passed through the filter, then ejected back out into the pool. Before the water flows into the pump however, it first passes through a metal strainer basket that catches large debris such as leaves in the water. Consider this as the pump's first level filter. Aside from catching large debris in the water, it also prevents these debris from clogging up the pump's system.

Next, the water goes through the actual pool filter - the second level filter. This filter works in the microscopic level. It filters out microscopic dirt and microorganisms in the water, thus completing the cleaning process of the water. After that, the cleaned water is finally ejected back into the pool.

Pool pumps can be compared to the human heart, the pool water to the blood and the pool filter to the kidneys. The heart pumps blood throughout our bodies, including the kidneys. The kidneys then filter and clean the blood so in can be circulated back to the rest of our body parts.

These can also be used as swimming pool cover pumps to remove water that has accumulated on top of the pool cover. You only need to place a pipe or hose (attached to the swimming pool cover pump) on the pool cover . This would serve as the straw that the pump will use to suck in the water. The pumps can be set to eject the water outside of the pool to prevent it from ejecting the water from the pool cover into the swimming pool.
