The Girl of the Moon - Part 5 - New Kid

Sorry it took so long. Here's the next part. Tom and Cora meet a few new people. Picture of Amber.
It was the red-haired girl and the strange Spanish-looking boy with blue eyes. They looked at each other and smiled, then turned back.

"It’s not up to us to decide Cora. All we can do is hope he has a good reason for just appearing here. But he made it through the tunnel without going mad, that’s a good sign. You are still sane aren’t you?" The Redhead said, turning her attention to me now. She had a strong Irish accent that made her sound like the leprechaun off Lucky Charms (only, you know, she was a girl)

"I…I think so. It just feels like I’m having an insane dream and any moment I’m gonna wake up." I looked around, taking in the strange room. It was stone again, like we were back in the cave. It was circular-shaped with a short hallway at either end, one where we walked in, the other leading farther in the stone. There were (surprise), more blue candles lining the wall all around us and down the longer walkway. It looked like it went in and branched into more hallways.

"Are we back underground?"

The guy nodded. When he spoke he had a Spanish accent and really rolled his r’s.

"We are in a network of caves that run all through this mountain range. We only use a small part of the tunnels, but it is still a large amount of land."

Cora headed toward the hallway. She turned around before walking away.

"Hey, Amber, Jordan, I gotta go practice some more. Will you guys get him something to eat? Please, take care of him, her reminds me of my brother." She looked so sad and forlorn that I couldn’t believe that anyone could be so heartless as to refuse here. Amber and Jordan, as they were apparently called, looked at each other again and nodded.

"We also are worried about him Cora." Jordan said.

"Not to mention curious. Tell me what you guys find out, you owe me!" She yelled, running along the tunnel. Soon her blond head was out of sight and the echoing footsteps had faded away.

"Can you guys answer some questions of mine? I came in with some frien-" but Amber held up her hand.

"Wait until you have something to eat. Then I’m sure we can answer your questions."

"But that’s the problem! I came in with my two friends, Alec and Rob. I’m sure if I’m hungry, they are. Please, have you seen them?" I was really worried. We had all walked into the tunnel together, so why weren’t we now?

They looked at each other again. I felt there was some connection that let them speak with each other without saying a word. Jordan turned and answered me.

"We do not know where your friends are. Please, come with us. Maybe they have been found at another entrance."

I had the feeling they were just saying this to placate me, but there was nothing else I could do. My friends were missing, I didn’t know where I was, and I didn’t know anyone here either. I just wish they would answer all my questions.

They lead me down a different branch than the one Cora ran down. I could smell the most delicious thing ever as we walked on. It was like heaven in my nose. We walked into a room like the one we had just come from, but someone else was in here. It was a girl, sitting facing away from us, with long black hair that came down almost to the floor, but I would guess to the middle of her back if she was standing. I looked at Amber and Jordan, trying to figure out what to do now. They were looking at each other, again. Geez, it was like they were talking without words. The girl stood up, but kept her back to us.

"So this is the one who came in an… unusual fashion? I hope he is the one we are expecting." She spoke a weird way, like she was trying to speak so we could understand us. It wasn’t like baby talk, or dragging it out, more like she was picking her words carefully so that others would get her meaning, or not misunderstand. But I might have been delving in too deep into the meaning or her tone.

My guides had an uncomfortable expression on, and squirmed a little. I had the feeling there was some sort of old drama or unease between them.

Jordan cleared his throat loudly and glanced at me, then turned back to the black-haired girl.

"We didn’t know you were here Selena. We’ll just get our food and get out."

She shook her head ."There is no need. I just wanted to see that he was recovering fine. I will be going now. Have a nice day. Jordan, Amber."

She turned around and looked straight at me. I took one look at her and couldn’t move. She was the girl from the street, but she looked different. She wasn’t creepy anymore, she was beautiful. Her long black hair contrasted startlingly with her pale skin, which was now uniformly ivory. But that wasn’t the first thing your eyes were drawn to. She had the brightest blue eyes I had ever seen, they popped out at you. It was strange, but even though I didn’t even know her name, I felt like I knew her, but how?

She turned and walked out, leaving me alone with Amber and Jordan. Funny, they sounded familiar to me. Had I been here before? It all seemed so natural. Some strange feeling came over me. I had to know, why did she bring me here, did she know where Alec and Rob were? Why did she look different?

I turned quickly and looked at Jordan and Amber. They had their backs to me, apparently looking for food for me. I started running out the door, following Selena.

I yelled back to my guides, "I’ll be right back, I have to ask her a question!"

I was going to get someone to answer my questions, for once.
