The Girl of the Moon - Part Four - Out of the Cave

Another chapter in my book/story. Hope you guys like it. Tom and Cora get out of the cave. Picture of Cora.
It looked sort of like one of the pictures you see sometimes in calendars or a postcard, but they've been touched up or airbrushed, they're not real. But this place, it was more beautiful than all of those other destinations, at least in my mind.

As far as you could see there were trees. Huge trees that dwarfed whatever was near them and would have been the tallest things if not for the huge mountains surrounding them. I could look in the distant and see them, like a ring, protecting the valley. The stone walls rose, dark gray and intimidating, high in the air. They made the giant plants look like match sticks. Straight ahead there was a clearing with a single building, dwarfed by the enormous surroundings. It looked like a little log cabin, but it looked abandoned.

We started walking toward the hut, but I wasn't nervous anymore. I didn't know why I was here, but I felt oddly comfortable, like I belonged here. I decided to wait and see what was going on. I had a lot of questions and I wanted to ask someone who could answer them.

The inside looked like it had been uninhabited for years. Dust and cobwebs covered everything but a little path to one hallway. Cora started walking a little faster and turned the corner. I hurried to catch up and saw her waiting at the end of the passage. She was standing by a door at the end, just stand there with her back to me.

The door was a small, plain-looking door. It had no ornaments, but there was a strange sort of power that surrounded it. You could tell there was something about the understated wood door. I reached her and saw she had a glassy look on her face. I looked at her, to the door, to her again. She snapped out of it and shook her head, reaching for the door. She looked up at me and smiled.
"Sorry I keep spacing out. I know it's kinda freaky, but I hope you'll be here long enough to get used to it."

Ok. Weird. Oh well, soon I hoped to find someone who could answer all my questions. Why was I here? Where was I? Why was there a little girl just wandering around through a cave and a forest? And what was with the strange people I'd seen before? Where were Alec and Rob? I'd get the answers somehow. Right now, I was just gonna go with the flow. For a little while.

I took a step back when the door seemed to open on its own. The little blond just waited till it was open and then walked on in. I hurried to follow her. I didn't want to be left behind. I heard the door shut behind me, an ominous clang that reverberated around the room.

Day had suddenly turned into Night. There was no light, just a pitch-black darkness that made you automatically slow down and watch where you stepped, even though it made no difference. The air wasn't warm, wasn't cold, and didn't have a smell to it. It was total sensory isolation. The only thing I could feel was Cora's hand in mine.

I stumbled along after her as she led me through the blackness. It seemed to me that she was walking fine, not hesitating or anything. We walked for what seemed like forever (but now I think it was about 20 minutes) I could see a little pinprick of light in the distance. It slowly started to grow as we continued onward. When we reached the end it was bright, again and my eyes hurt, again.
I could see two figures sitting down, but it was still too bright to open my eyes all the way. Cora led me to a chair and helped me into it, then turned and talked to the other people.

"I think he's ok. He didn't mope and act scared or ask a thousand questions or anything, please, let's keep him." She looked at them with big pleading eyes. From the way she talked it was hard to tell she looked only about 11 or 12.

My eyes had adjusted enough by then that I could see who she was talking to.

Sorry for the constant cliff-hangers. Hope you people keep reading and thanks for the comments and stuff.
