The Girl in Boy Wonder's Clothes - Part 5
Enter Barbara Gordon ..... briefly.
Kelli's POV:
"Ms. Meyer, I came here for several reasons the first one being my father, Commissioner Gordon, has been after Catwoman for as long as I can remember. It's almost an obsession with him. I'm hoping your daughter, Kelli, can remember something about her kidnapping that might lead us to that villianess woman. The second reason is just as important. I'm afraid your daughter is in grave danger. I saw the video threat Catwoman made at the Jewelry Store." Barbara Gordon smooth the hem of her skirt as she spoke.
I could see mom frown as Barbara finished. Her fears coincided with the redhead who was speaking. "I'm afraid you're correct, Ms. Gordon." Mom looked worriedly over at me. "Kelli, I'm afraid, is young and doesn't realize the danger she is facing. Forgive me Kelli, but I'm fearful the limelight you've been basking in has made you unaware of the threats and how far Catwoman will go to get even."
Typical mom treating me like a two year old again. At first I had been nervous about Catwoman but now, eh. Maybe she'll knock me out and kidnap me again. So what? A girl has to have a little excitement in her life, doesn't she? Of course I knew better than to tell mom what I was thinking.
"I really don't know for sure but everyone thinks Batgirl is looking out for me." I did say that before I could stop myself.
Barbara Gordon shrugged. "I'm sure she has you in mind but if you think it was Batgirl that rescued you, you're wrong."
"You don't know that for sure," I said.
Barbara Gordon seemed nervous. "Well.....no...... I don't but," she paused thinking then hurriedly said, "but daddy talked with her. He has contact with her and he asked her straight out. Batgirl told him she had nothing to do with your rescue."
"Really!" Mom and I answered at the same time.
Mom was fussy, wringing her hands. "Oh Ms. Gordon, I don't know what to do. I do anything to protect Kelli but I'm not sure I'm capable of standing up to Catwoman."
Barbara's red hair bounced as she nodded in agreement. "I understand. Not many can. But I think I have a solution you might like. Have Kelli come and stay with me. I told you my dad had contact with Batgirl. I bet she would be willing to guard Kelli until Catwoman meets justice."
Mom looked frazzled. While I was invigorated by my encounter with Catwoman it had left her at wits end. "Kelli. I love you dearly and I'm so worried about you. You'd be so much safer under the watchful eye of Batgirl."
"It's alright mom. I'll go stay with Ms. Gordon until Catwoman is rounded up."
"Oh good," mom sighed with relief.
I didn't want mom to see I was too happy. That would make her feel bad but the truth was I was ecstatic. The chance to meet Batgirl live!! Oh my gosh.
So I soon had some things packed for my stay with Barbara Gordon and we made the drive over to Gotham City and to Barbara Gordon's apartment. It was late by the time we got so after she showed me my bedroom just down the hall from her, I unpacked, put on my PJs and after saying good night I went to bed.
I slept really well even though I was excited and thrilled that my adventure, the one that started with being kidnapped, was, just maybe, going to continue.
