The Girl in Boy Wonder's Clothes - Conclusion

Kelli is kidnapped once more.
Kelli's POV:

The bed was cozy, the blankets warm and the pillows soft. All in all I slept soundly. When I awoke next morning I could smell bacon and could hear Barbara clinking glasses and plates outside my room. Not bothering with the robe lying at the foot of the bed I, sleepily dressed, went out to say good morning. Instead of Barbara, standing by the stove cooking, there was Batgirl.

The sight of her left me nearly speechless. Even though her face was partially covered by her pointy eared cowl, it was plain to see how beautiful she was. Her red hair flowed from beneath the cowl and disappeared under her yellow cape. Her full length body suit showed a flawless figure despite the intrusive utility belt that rattled softly as she moved.

"Hi there Kelli," she said brightly without turning around. "Barbs gone for a few days so I'm taking her place. You don't mind do you?"

"Not at all." My legs were watery so I sat at the kitchen island.

Batgirl, can you believe, served me breakfast of eggs, bacon and orange juice? There was a price. I had to, once again, go over the story of my abduction. And it greater detail than ever.

"Did you rescue me?" I asked as soon as I finished my umpteenth telling.

Batgirl shook her head. "Nothing to do with it I'm afraid. I'm pretty sure that deed was Harley Quinn's doing. She plunked you out of Catwoman's clutches just to embarrass Catwoman. Harley is no fan of Catwoman even though they operate on the same crooked side of the law."

"I know one thing," I said. "I'm never going to dress as a boy again. Particularly as Boy Wonder. The only Wonder things I'm going to be wearing is a Wonder Bra."

Batgirl laughed. "Smart girl."

"Do you think I'm in danger? I mean I didn't do anything to harm her."

Batgirl's eyebrows flipped up and down. "No telling. Catwoman's ego sometimes rules her thinking. I think you'll be safe as long as you stick close to me. Commissioner Gordon has all his resources on it. And Batman and Robin are in the mix too. I don't think Catwoman can avoid the net that is closing in on her."

There was a knock on the door at that point. Batgirl motioned me to a chair as she went and opened the door. A dark haired woman in a white, collared blouse and green skirt stood there.

"Oh my!" She said upon seeing Batgirl standing before her. "I....er... was looking for Barbara Gordon. I'm Selina Kyle. I'm from the Museum. They sent me over with some recently discovered papers." The woman banished a handful of old looking parchment. "They wanted her to look these over and see if she could shed any light on their meaning."

"Barbara isn't here," Batgirl said. Then she looked down at the parchments the woman was holding. I could tell her curiosity was peaked. "I have a .....eh....passing interest in old artifacts. Perhaps, if you would allow me, I could take a quick look at them? I know Babara very well and I might be able to determine by looking at them if she'd be interested in seeing them."

"Sure," the woman said handing Batgirl the parchments. While the woman stood at the door Batgirl carried them over to the island and placed them there. As she rifled through them the woman's silent presence appeared behind Batgirl.

I could see Batgirl frown as she looked over the parchments. "Why these are just fakes."

"So they are," the woman had her arm raised and with a swift motion she chopped Batgirl across the back of the neck. Then the woman stepped aside to allow Batgirl to slump to the floor.

I didn't move at first frozen at the sight of the unconscious Batgirl. The woman reached for me but I dodged her initial thrust. I scurried to the other side of the island.

The woman smiled wickedly. "Now just be a good girl and come along without a fuss."

"Not in this lifetime. Who are you? Why did you hit Batgirl?"

Her answer was a snarl that sent a wave of chills through me. Though her voice sounded vaguely familiar it wasn't the time to think about where I heard it before. All I knew was I was in danger.

"If you don't leave I'll.......I'll scream!" What a weak threat I realized. The woman advanced slowly around the island edging closer to me. I parried by moving in the other direction. Then with an ungodly screech she sprang, literally sprang, up onto the island counter top!

I bolted for the door. I hardly had touched the door knob when she was on me. her hand grabbed my shoulder and she spun me around toward her. Her fist landed on my chin. It was da ja vu all over again.

The lights went out.
*********
Again the voices were far, far away.

"I think she's coming to." Definitely a female voice.

"About time." The second voice was definitely male but not mature male. And a note of impatience in it.

"Now Robin be kind." A male's and mature.

"Yeah Robin. Batman's right. She got clobbered by one of Catwoman's haymakers. She's lucky to be coming to on the same day." The female voice again.

I opened my eyes and Batgirl's face swam into view. "Hi," she said softly. "Feeling okay?"

I found I was lying on a couch. Batgirl was sitting at me hip. Pat her shoulder I could see Batman, Next to him, fidgeting from one foot to the other was Boy Wonder. And past them I saw two police officer leading a hand cuffed Selina Kyle out the door.

I pushed myself up onto my elbows. Batgirl gently pushed me back down. "Don't go too fast. You've been out a couple of hours. Better not hurry it."

"She's fine Batman. Let's go." It was Robin showing his youthful impatience.

Batman didn't protest and the two crime fighters disappeared out the door.

Batgirl shook her head disapprovingly. "Oh well."

"I suppose this is where I ask......."where am I?"

"In Catwoman's hideaway. After she knocked us out she brought you here," Batgirl explained. "No, I was still out when she carried you out. But when I came around, I called Batman and Robin. We came after you, captured Catwoman, by the way Selina Kyle is Catwoman, called the police and all ended well despite the bad start."

"How did you find me? Did you know where her hide out was all along?"

"We didn't have a clue or we'd have apprehended her long ago. No, we have to thank Batman and........" Batgirl unbuttoned the top of my blouse, "this little thing."

I looked down. Clipped to the center of my bra was a tiny........ what? Speck of a device. Unless Batgirl hadn't pointed it out I would have never known it was there.

"It's a transmitter. It small but it sends out a powerful radio signal. Batman has a slew of them at the Bat Cave. Yesterday, as a precaution he gave me some. Last night while you were sleeping I slipped into your room and attached one to each of the three bras you had in the dresser. In case something went wrong we had a way to find you again. So when Catwoman grabbed you again Batman's receiver in the Bat Mobile led us right to you."

So, I thought, not wearing a bra one night got me into this........adventure. And wearing one saved me.

And that's the story. I was once again a major news item and my reputation as a hero, minus a few details, was reestablished. I was a big shot at school although I didn't pretend to act like one. Nothing I did had anything to do with heroics. Batgirl, Batman and that bratty Robin were the heroes. Yep, Boy Wonder is someone I never wish to be like ever again.

THE END
Should Kelli be considered brave or a wimp?
