The Fourth of May Angel

When we lose a loved one, we don't cry that they're gone. We cry when they never come back.
Hello baby girl do you remember me
You loved it when mommy sang what life can be
Your smile lifted me up without fear
And I always know when to shed a tear
I want to squeeze you in my arms
But instead your blood is on my hand when I hear the cop’s alarms.

If you just see that you left daddy alone
If you just feel that your heart is my home
If you just breathe into my arms like the way it should be!

I tried so hard to fight the past
But that day seems to only last
You went into mommy and daddy’s room
Oh how I wish you could have stayed and watched your life bloom
You found the gun lying on the bedroom floor
But then suddenly the gun decided to scream and splatter you on the door
We ran into the room and saw that you had died
I tried to pretend that your cold skin was just a lie
Mommy and I cried to sleep
So we can dream that your smile is always something to keep.

My baby was an angel on the 4th of May
Why did she have to fly away?
Why can’t that smile just stay?

If you just see that you left daddy alone
If you just feel that your heart is my home
If you just breathe into my arms like the way it should be!

My baby was an angel on the 4th of May
Why did she have to fly away?
Why can’t that smile just stay?

Just breathe
Just breathe
Just breathe for me on the 4th of May.
