The Gallo Pinto is the national dish of Costa Rica. This consists of fried rice and black beans. The Casado is served at lunchtime.
The Costa Rican food includes a large use of non-vegetarian items such as chicken, fish, beef and loads of other seafood as well. Breakfast time for the people of Costa Rica includes menu that consists of pancakes, scrambled eggs etc. Desserts include plain cake and pineapple patties. The vegetarian diet has been imbibed recently into the Costa Rican food menu. This is because many people prefer vegetarian to non-vegetarian food items.
The food of Costa Rica also involves the use of coconut milk and spice. This is used to create delicious dishes. Locals are known to cook dishes in various ways and the taste of the food depends upon the regions where it is cooked. Sauce remains to be an integral part of the food of Costa Rica.
Costa Rica Food Recipes:
Gallo Pinto-Rice with Beans
Ingredients
Oil (3 tablespoons)
Salsa, lizano (1 tablespoon)
Coriander - chopped (1 tablespoon)
Black beans - cooked (1 1/2 cups)
Rice - cooked (2 1/2 cups)
Bell pepper – chopped (2 tablespoons)
Onion - chopped (2 tablespoons)
Preparation:
First, you would need to cook the onion along with the bell pepper for at least 2 minutes. Then, add the black beans with the salsa and let it simmer for at least 10 minutes. Cook it on medium heat. Now, you can add the cooked rice and add some coriander as well. Then add the either cooked bacon, pork or even chicken to this as per your requirement. Eggs can form a part of this dish as well.
Delicious White Rice Recipe:
Ingredients
Long-grain white rice (1 cup)
Garlic clove - minced (1-2)
Corn oil or canola oil or vegetable oil (1 tablespoon)
Carrot - diced small (1/2)
Salt
Preparation:
Heat some oil over medium heat. Add some garlic to this; ensure it does not brown too much. Then, add some rice to this and cook it for at least a minute; also ensure that you keep stirring this constantly. Then, add around 2 cups of water to the preparation. Cook it uncovered and allow it to come to a strong boil for some minutes. The carrots and the salt can be added to this mixture. Then, reduce the heat and keep it covered for 10 minutes.
