The Fame of Football

Football, specifically professional football, is a well-known sport, certainly that’s a fact. But can you really imagine how its popularity has influenced our lives? This article provides some fine points to show the chain reaction of how football moves the world (or some parts of it, in particular).
Athletes, nowadays, have been the favorite product endorsers, especially for sports apparel, energy drinks, and the like. An NFL player earns an average of $700,000 yearly, solely from his basic salary as a player. That’s a pretty fair computation for those 1-3 year veteran, but this amount varies a lot and highly depends on many aspects like the player’s performance, contract deals, etc. But with this big amount, their bank account even swells more because of those endorsements, not to mention their TV appearances and interviews. NFL players can also be compared to movie stars, and can be counted to the most highly paid individuals on earth.

Of course, because these players are popular, it’s more likely and obvious that they have lots and lots of fans and supporters. Now these people come in many forms. There are those watching football games regularly from their local channels or even through internet subscriptions. There are those who are not satisfied in watching from their homes but instead want to see the live action in stadiums. There are those that cannot afford to watch in a regular basis but do have their own football thingies collections. And a lot more countless fans out there who admires football and is influenced by it in many indescribable ways.

Here are some observations. A season ticket’s prices depend on the seat and of the NFL team, but let’s say it averages from $50-$100 bucks. Not so friendly price, compared to watching other live sports. But despite the fact, an average stadium which can accommodate about 70,000 people always ends up to be fully loaded every time there’s a game. This just implies that "if there’s a will, there’s a way;" and if there’s a football game, we can tighten our budget for a ticket!

So it’s just 70,000 seats, and the rests watch from their TVs, and internet. Did you know that even TV networks earn million bucks from the NFL? Yes, through the TV ads, plus the coverage rights for the game, football brings a lot of money to them. There are plenty of factors why this happens, but one sure factor is the enormous amount of subscribers watching football; meaning the more viewers, the more income. In fact, the NFL itself earns about a billion bucks or two annually, solely from those TV advertisements.

Speaking of those TV ads and going back to NFL stars - actors - endorsers, as a player becomes more recognized, everything (or at least almost) seems to be a big issue to the media. Media covers when an NFL team or a player contributes to or leads a charitable work. It’s a big scoop if they’ve done something heroic, philanthropic act, or whatever that can benefit to the society. But it’s a bigger scoop if a player is caught doing something against the law, or any action that can stain their name. This simply implies that these players have been actually a public-owned, since they are popular, even some served as models / good examples to the youth- the public is aware and is concerned in every action they do, and they always seem to be a big deal.

Did you get what I’m trying to explain? Here’s a summary. An NFL player plays football, of course someone watches. He or she may have the budget for it, but the person certainly considers it to be a part of his/her finances. As many people watch, the player is inspired; he may perform better then receive a salary increase. And as many more people watches live football, the more the player becomes inspired, the better his performance will be, and later on he becomes popular because of that, and soon he’ll be offered a commercial ad. People sees the ad and buys the product- the more income for the company, the TV network who flashes the ad, and so on, and so forth…the chain goes on and on. This is just a simple scenario but it actually happens. Football has really been a part of everyone’s life, in many different ways, and that’s how its fame spreads around the world, may we realized it or not.
