The End has Come, My Love

This is about a woman whose love is a soldier, and he gets taken away to war, but he doesn't tell her he's enlisted. She learns the hard way when he dies.
Loving you forever
Was then my only wish,
The comfort of your arms
Was my eternal bliss.

Until the end will come
My love,
Until the end will come.

Your kisses were my blessings,
The things that I held dear,
And so, my mind made up love,
You shall stay forever near.

Until my end will come
My love,
Until my end will come.

You said you loved me too,
And I was foolish to believe,
But still, again I'm here love,
Where I never want to leave.

I fear the end is near
My love,
I fear the end is near.

And then they came to take you
Love, they came to take you away,
But you promised you'd stay here, love,
You promised you would stay.

Your end is coming near
My love,
Your end is coming near.

They never said you died, love,
They left me in the dark,
So faithfully here I waited, love,
With my hungry, desperate heart.

Tell me, why are you gone
My love,
Tell me, why are you gone?

When I learned the news, love,
That they have found you dead,
The last thing that I heard, love,
Were the Church bells, tolling
Dead,
Dead,
Dead.

Alas, the end has come
My love,
Alas, the end has come.
