The Enchantress - Introduction

My apologies for not posting anything new in several months. I have had the worst case of writer's block. Let me know if you like this story and think I should continue. I only ask that you use constructive criticism and explain any negative comments to the fullest.
Across the centuries, I have been granted many titles and aliases. I have ruled over many countries, among them the city many refer to as the lost city of Atlantis. I have brought peace to some civilizations and, despite my best intentions, destruction to countless others. I have watched many of my race including friends, family, and people I was supposed to protect die horrible deaths right before my eyes. I, on the other hand, cannot die; I am allowed only to hibernate. I suffer for my mother's unforgivable mistake. At my age many of my race would have already retired, leaving the job in someone younger and far more capable of the task at hand.

Someone whose power, influence, and intelligence would enable their powers to grow stronger than those of their teachers. The Great War Between the Worlds has changed everyone and everything I once knew. I do not retire because I do not feel that anyone can be trusted with the safety of the many dimensions and worlds contained within the universe. I am stuck with the terrible burden that was placed upon my shoulders at the tender age of fifteen. I trust no one and my job grows more challenging by the minute. The people and creatures I was created to protect no longer seem to want my protection.

People often ask what burden could be so terrible to suck the life and energy out of someone as young as me. I am merely a child to most, one who has failed to reach adulthood in appearance and is still prone to the vivid temper tantrums of youth, one who has not yet reached even the Age of Consequence. Only those I consider my enemies can see past my appearance into my true nature and the vast ocean of my knowledge. They have said that my eyes give me away. They contain too many emotions for a young girl to have experienced. My job sounds simple and at one time it was considered so, a job for royalty and those who didn't want to get their hands dirty. My job is this: to keep the worlds in balance, keep the dark forces within their natural realms and prevent the forces that mean well from growing too strong.

At one time, my main concern would have been to merely observe and ensure the safety of my many subjects throughout the dimensions. However, the universe has changed. For centuries now I have had to intervene almost every day in order to keep each creature and being under my watch safe. For any other member of my race this task would not really be all that difficult, but I am far from ordinary. I am a mistake a sin against nature. A crime so horrible that the price was my mother's life. Immortality is not known to most of our race, and it would be a grave mistake to wish for something so cruel. Despite these known facts that are embedded into my being, I am the exception. I am and always will be immortal.

My mother was an Enchantress of the royal blood line. Her job as balancer of the worlds was passed on to me when I reached a suitable age for the occupation, all because of her one sin that could only be remedied with her death. It goes against the laws of nature for an Enchantress and a Sorcerer to breed and marry. The very same laws my parents decided did not apply to them. I am the result, a sin against nature doomed to immortality. My power and knowledge overwhelm the elders of both races and it came with a great price.

My name is Annalise Nicole Grayson and this is my story.
