The Effects of Acne on the Skin

Learn about how acne affects most teenagers in the United States.
Acne is a nasty skin condition that affects millions of people across the world annually, and it doesn't seem like it's going anywhere anytime soon. It is caused by the pores becoming clogged up due to dead skin and other debris from the air accumulating on the skin and cultivating p. acne bacteria that then cause the pore to become inflamed, resulting in a zit.

The effects of acne are numerous, as you will soon find out. Physically, acne is a very socially damaging condition that causes people to develop blemished faces and ugly marks on their skin that begin to hinder their social ability. And as a result, the psychological effects of acne, which are much worse, slowly begin to kick in.

The psychological effects start by decreasing the afflicted person's amount of self confidence and leads to decreased social performance, decreased overall performance in life, and more and more negative thoughts that often result in mental disorders. Granted that these particular disorders might not be life threatening, they are most definitely serious enough to cause mild to severe depression and in some cases even manic depressive.

Knowing all of these things, it is obvious that acne is not something that we as adults should simply let children "go through" as part of their puberty. We should strive to help out our children to the best of our abilities to spare them from the pain of being socially ostracized and to protect their sense of self and integrity. Teenagers are highly impressionable, and damages done at this age can last for a long, long time to come.

All of the above reasons, and many more not mentioned, are cause for treating acne as a serious affliction that the general public should become more informed about and thus treat more seriously.
