The Echos of Hunger

This I actually wrote during class today. It’s about a homeless man I saw sleeping under the freeway over pass and I just couldn’t help but feel sad and yet fortunate to have what I have. With this humbling experience I hope many will feel the same…
Blessed be the morning in which we woke up today
With the early morning due on the frosted window pane
Yet the image of the disenfranchised burned in my head
How do they sleep at night with the pavement as their bed?
Or the freezing night along with the noisy mornings?
The stare from the people that can burn a whole in your soul
Or the prejudicetic remarks with a hint of hate
The politicians promise to make this end
But like always nothing happens
And yet another night spent searching for a room a box maybe even a tent
The echoes of hunger cry through the night
As they try to keep the warmth on their side
Believe in the creator you want to believe
But what did these people do to deserve all this?
Pray to your savoir or guiding light
To help these people find warmth and shelter tonight
Blessed are we who have shelter to keep warmth in
My God help their troubled souls
And guide them onto a better road
Which we they deserve
One that leads to a better home.
