The Dirty Sidewalk
A reminder for us not to litter.......far too many of us do not bother about the consequences of littering, nor do we care who is left to clean up after us......
I came across a beautiful sight;
A little boy cleaning the sidewalk,
In the pale dim evening light.
I stopped and watched him for a while,
He was working with such intent;
All dirt and grime on his small hands,
For which toys and games were meant.
It did not seem to bother him though,
To clean all the dirt left behind;
He did it with a smile on his face,
He was just one of a kind.
Watching him I felt ashamed,
For some of the dirt was mine;
I went right up and got to my knees,
To help this boy so fine.
I was taught a lesson that day,
To never throw things on the ground;
Taught by someone as high as my knee,
Who left his toys and games behind.
So the next time you think of dropping,
A wrapper or bottle on the ground;
Think of the people who clean our mess,
And spread the message around.
