The Dead Travel Fast
A conversation with a ghost.

We only buried you yesterday.
I knew you'd be restless,
I knew you'd come back to see me.
Sit down my dead friend
And pour out your thoughts to me,
You look pale, are you ok?
Are you lost in a memory?
You never gave me time to miss you,
Nor time to dry my tears,
But I'm so glad you have come back home,
Your presence allays my fears.
It's so good to see you again,
But why do you just stare blankly?
You haven't uttered a single word to me,
Don't you recognize me?
We've been friends since we were kids,
We went to school together,
We drank in the same pub,
Faced the same stormy weather.
Oh how I laugh when I remember
How we used to tease the girls.
Did you know you married my secret lover?
Yeh man! She was a belle!
You don't mind me telling you this?
After all, your life is through,
You are merely an apparition,
What pain can it possibly cause you?
Wait there while I get another whisky,
And I'll raise a toast to old pals,
I have so much more to tell you,
And you'll laugh when I talk about Belle.
Why are you staring at me?
Your eyes look frighteningly black,
Please stop pressing on my chest,
I think I'm having a heart attack!
