The Darker Shades of Life

This poem is simply a flicker from the deepest recesses of the wonder called the human heart. The attempt is humble and strives to strike a cord in the coldness of youth towards the fraility of the evening....
The Darker Shades of Life
It’s funny enough that all through life
One wants to be the other
The child wants to feel adult
The lass just like her mother.

As time flies by and the shades grow dark
Roles swap, but by a measure
Transition waits for no one’s call
A pebble converts to treasure.

The waiting and ranting and fuming
Are all a part of dear old life,
And when evening comes in full glory
It is never without a tear and strife.

What did I achieve – I ask,
And all around seems barren and bare
I have none but myself to riddle
And none but myself to dare!

Silly folks really
They know not how to cheer
Life’s great teachings and musings
Are mine, all set and clear.

What? They ask, and when was it?
I may not pin point a day and time
But, leave aside measures and scales
My memories are only worth a dime.

Each of us, in our role to play
And with everything we have around
People, places and dear ones
Sight and voice and sound!

We are laden with gifts and treasures galore
We have all it takes right within,
You don’t even have to look beyond
It’s right there beneath your skin!

Come, come, I beckon,
Come and waste no time
I am but an extension of you,
Yours for now and still a while…..
