The Dark Facts About Your Drinking Water

The dark facts about your drinking water and what you can do about it
The facts about drinking tap water isn't always positive. In fact, it can be downright scary.

Yes, we know drinking water is important for maintaining good health but there is also an ugly underbelly. What I am referring to is the issue of pharmaceutical drugs in drinking water.

Whilst the government does an admirable job in keeping our water supply safe from bacterial and chemical contaminants, they are not so up to scratch with protecting us from pharmaceutical drugs in drinking water

By the EPA's own admission, they don't know enough about the effects drugs in drinking have and are therefore unable to regulate for it.

The Associated Press (AP) recently did an eye opening report on this issue and found that the water supply of approximately 41 million Americans has pharmaceutical drugs in them.

The federal government hasn't set any Maximum Contaminants Levels (MCL) for drugs or any testing requirements because it does not yet scientifically understand how much of these drugs is too much.

In an AP interview Benjamin Grumbles, the EPA Water Chief, said about drugs in drinking water, "Our position is there needs to be more searching, more analysis."

The AP study found that of the 62 major water suppliers they contacted, only the drinking water of 28 were tested for pharmaceutical drugs. Among those that didn't test were Houston, Chicago, Miami, Baltimore, Phoenix and Boston. That is millions of people consuming drugs via a glass of water.

There are some that argue that the drugs in water are only in trace quantities and that there is no need to panic. However, by ingesting drug laced water over 10, 20 even 50 years, the effect on your body can build up over time.

Think about it can, via a glass of water. you can be taking chemotherapy drugs, tranquilizers, hormonal drugs etc. These are drugs which have not been prescribe to you nor for which you have an illness.

Dr David Carpenter, Director for the Institute for Health and the Environment of the State University of New York, Albany had this to say, "We know we are being exposed to other people's drugs through our drinking water, and that can't be good."

Since the federal government is way behind in giving you the protection you need, you have to take matters into your own hands. The way to do this is to purchase a quality water purification system.

There are many water purifiers on the market but go with one that is certified to NSF 53 standard. It is very effective in removing synthetic chemicals and chlorine byproducts (DBPs) from your tap water. Both these contaminants have been linked to a host of health disasters including many varieties of cancer.

Getting a certified water purifier ensures that the manufacturer's performance claims have been validated and that the components used to make the filtration unit are safe.

Be also aware that drinking water contaminants can also enter the body through the skin and inhalation. So when you take a hot shower, you are not safe from the effects of drugs or other contaminants in your tap water.

To tackle that problem, get a quality shower water filter in addition to a drinking water filter. Shower head filters remove chlorine and other chemical contaminants, leaving you to have a safe and refreshing shower.

Actually, bathing in chlorine-free water is great for your skin too since chlorine leaves your skin dry. much like when swimming in a pool.

Know that you know the dark facts about drinking water, don't delay in getting quality water filtration units for your household. It will be the best investment in your long term health that you have ever made.
