The Big Match

The Big Match is a strong tale of a lesbian pro wrestler. Her bout doesn't just take place in the wrestling ring, but in her personal life.
Daryl is training for her big match for an upcoming pro wrestling event. Daryl, is the most famous woman wrestler in the world, and she is very focused and hungry for a successful win. She is at her semi-electrified, noisy, cracked foundational apartment with a treadmill and free weights. She prepares by dressing in her signature attire: a black sports bra and bright orange running shorts.

She ties her long dark braided hair back and stretches. She leans over to pick up her weights when she pulls her back out. The pain radiates from her tail bone up to the base of her neck. At this point, she can barely match.

Daryl crawls on her hands and knees towards the bathroom - the peeling tile floor are slicing her knees. Her fingertips barely clip the bathroom lights on. She hoist herself up by her elbows on the edge of the bathroom sink - with all her might, tear drops stumble over the pain crinkles on her face. She struggles to open the medicine cabinet - while trying, her braided hair swaying up and down from the force of her body - she knocks off her toothbrush holder and hair products from the sink.

Finally, she grabs the painkillers, "eight" grams, and the number of times she has been injured from pro wrestling. It is morning; she wakes up in the middle of her bathroom floor. She has no idea what time it is. She glares up at the dusty cob webs entangled with ceiling lights then she looks at her toilet - her elbows help her get up ;she dives her head into the porcelain bowl and vomits her sadness.

She realizes she can get up on her own with still a bit of pain. She packs her wrestling gear and hurries out of her house in time for the show. She trips over an unknown object, "crap, not again" she mumbles to herself. She leans over to check the object. Her face drops to her scraped knees as she recognizes the angelic painfully beauty gracing the photo.

She shrugs off the reminiscing feeling and continued darting for the door. Once she
arrived at the show, a fellow wrestler approached her. "You ready to kick some butt?" the over sized tattooed covered wrestler asked her. He was really big - I mean so big when he walks, he cast a shadow on people. His breath smelled like a combination of beer and Doritos mixed with last night's egg salad.

While he talked, Daryl played off covering her nose. "You know it" she replied. As she is walking, she faces the ground blocking out the dead gray cement walls splattered with sweat and blood. She enters the performers' dressing room - She is so used to the atmosphere that the smell of Bengay and baby oil with a hint of sweaty armpits seems to not faze her. Another female opponent approaches her with I just- got- canned look on her face,

"Hey Daryl"
"You don't look too happy?"
'Vinnie just let me go. Said no work for me"
"That's bull crap! He just hired some douche from Washington - ain't even talented"
"He's thinkin bout firing more women"
"Hell no! hope I'm not next".

She prepares for her match, but her promoter interrupts her.

"Dare Devil, gotta talk"
"Huh, I wonder what for?"
"Business"
"Yeah...right"
"What's that mean?"
"Look, I know what you're about to do and it sucks"
"What am I about to do?"
"You know, I've done so much for you and this hell hole wrestling and this is how you treat me?"
"What the heck are you talking about?"

"Whatever - if that is how you want to handle things, fine"
"I just wanted to tell you -we're planning on you winning the championship belt!"
"What?!"
"Yeah, what did you think I was going to tell you?"
"How?, what?, why Am I getting the belt?"
"Because you deserve it silly"
"Vinnie"
"Darn, okay, we're letting Ms. Evil and Lady Kill go"
"Yeah, I heard"
"Hey, that's life, they'll be alright - there is always Hooters"
"Excuse me - I got to go"

She bumps Vinnie on her way out. She peaks through the curtains and notices
how packed the show is- Her nerves start settling in. Before she knows it, her legs turn to jelly. Till this very day, Daryl still gets nervous. She takes a deep breath, closes her eyes, and makes her entrance. Her theme song radiates the venue as the 15,000 plus crowd full of fans sporting "I love Dare Devil" and various other wrestlers' t-shirts. The announcer introduces her, "Making her way to the ring the greatest woman wrestler in the world! DARE DEVIL!.

Pyrotechnics reaches the ceiling resembling a burst of confetti - the fans dart off their feet waving signs reading "you're the best" "the next champion". A mixture of multiple colognes and perfumes covers the air splashed with popcorn and hot dogs. Daryl takes down her massive opponent with her signature move "The helpless" and wins the bout becoming the new women's champion. When she enters the backstage, her wrestling friends give her big hugs and congratulate her on the big win.

A fellow wrestler ask her if she would like to join him and a couple of girls for a night of celebration. She is tempted and accepts the offer. Daryl and her wrestler friend "Big Bruiser" a 6'5 monster with a T-shirt reading "Got Blood?" bring his girlfriends back to a hotel.
"You want to take turns D?"
"Yeaaah...no dude, I'm good"

A beautiful red-head intrigues Daryl for some fun and she goes for it. It's midnight, she wakes up - beer bottles and ladies underwear are covering the bed post and carpet. She tiptoes her way out of the hotel. She is determined to stay champion and remain the best female athlete in the world. She stays up and hits her gym. While Daryl is working out, she sees a vision of her dead ex girlfriend Edie.

"It didn't take long for you to forget about me" Edie expresses
"I didn't, I never forgot how you threw your life away without considering the pain your family and friends will feel" Daryl retorted

She continues to lift her twenty pound free weights,
"You will, your career will over take you like it always does. I was never as important to you as your wrestling career. Even after I overdosed, I still didn't matter."

"I never meant to make you feel less important, but I've always told you my pro wrestling career comes first - this is my life, you were my lover"

She struggles to lift the left free weight - she drops it and sits down on the bench. She wipes away her tears with her sweaty toned right arm; she unravels the tape from her wrist.
"I tried to save you Edie - I tried to take you away from all that mess. You wanted that life - you."
"You gave up on me"
"I did everything I could, and you know it. You don't think I stay up every night wishing to God to take back everything I said to you that day. I cuss at myself everyday for what I said to you"
"Maybe I deserved it. C'mon, I was a total cunt when I roamed the earth. I gave you hell and everything that came with it."

"Shut up."
"What, for speaking the truth? - you hated me and you know it"
"Shut up Edie."
"For Pete sakes Dee, you hated the fact that I screwed everything walking and made sure you knew about it. You wanted me dead a long time ago."
"You were a whore - a lying whore that only gave a crap about your self
of course I hated you who wouldn't. Doesn't mean you had to snort your
damn life away you selfish bitch."
"Wow, well that's good to know. Any more departing words; I have a curfew, got a fitting for new wings."
"Ha, and here I am thinking you were in hell."
"Always a smart-ass, I'll miss that about you."

Edie caresses her face and drifts away. Daryl gazes with a tear falling off her cheek and whispers the words,

"And I'll miss you".
