The Best Browser in the World
Safari 3.0 Beta is a new browser that has speed as its main advantage. See more about Steve Jobs’ "perfect" browser! Is it so close to perfection?
Windows with a taste of Mac OS
Just like the other applications done by Apple on windows, Safari 3.0 Beta is the best when it comes to preserving the original aspect of the system and of the rival Microsoft. All the elemental windows and buttons on the scroll bar are the original ones from Mac OS. From here on a series of bugs and lack of other functions is included, bugs with which the common PC user is now well used. The windows cannot be redirected except by pulling on them from the top right corner, the scroll is not automatic; first you have to click on the window and then attempt to scroll down, there are even times when you cannot use the scroll feature at all! Happily in the main window of the program this problem does not exist. There are visual effects and applications of Apple for the Mac OS, the slider effect of opening a RSS, resizing the options bar in function with the longitude of the sections and the showing of the desired text is in contrast with the luminosity of the rest of the page, and this is only one example of these. The so-called smoothing effect is another thing taken from the Mac OS, there are three levels when it comes to this feature: light, medium and strong. Personally, I find even the light level irritating to the eyes.
Speed: the main feature
Safari can praise itself for a very good speed in the showing of pages and other such things; it is superior to the three most important browsers in Windows: Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera. The loading of programs is also very fast when the computer is cold and at the reopening. The Web standards are not a problem for this system, maybe that is what Apple is talking about when it says that Safari is the best from the best, because in the other aspects will touch next, we’ll see that Safari is not that good.
Tabbed browsing…partially.
Browsing through the tabs is one of the most important features of today’s browsers. This function, invented by Opera, is present in Safari as well, but only on a elementary level. The support for the tabs rests on the opening of the links at the request of the external applications: messenger, email, etc. The CTRL button is used for opening links in new tabs and for the opening of these in the first windows or in the background. Besides this, support for the tabs in Safari can get in the best case 5 out of 10. One of the reasons for the functionality being reduced is the opening of the links in other windows. What is the role of tabbed browsing if new windows are opened? The principle at the base of this feature is opening of one window in which all the sites can be accessed.
Add-ons, extensions?
It is not the case. Safari doesn’t have support for extensions. So, if we are not happy with tabbed browsing offered by them, with the download manager or with the lack of the other functions with which you are used from other browsers, all you have to do is to keep dreaming. The support for extensions would have made us overlook the little issues that could have been corrected with their help. In other words, if I want to use Safari I will have to give up the Mouse Gestures because Apple’s browser does not include this function, and you can’t add it with the help of any extension, compromise that I am not willing to make.
Who will Safari on Windows?
Because of the functionality that Safari offers Windows’ users in this moment and taking in the consideration the opposition, I doubt that the "perfect" browser of Steve Jobs will enjoy a great market share. It is possible that at the beginning the curiosity of Windows’ users will make Safari a popular browser, but after that I am afraid there will come waves of people uninstalling it.
At the end, everybody agrees on one issue: the best browser in the world is Mozzila . And that’s all I got to say about that.
