Virtually every business relies on backend sales; affiliate marketing is no different. While backend selling is a common practice for merchants, most affiliate never consider it. However, incorporating it into your marketing procedure can greatly increase your sales.

For a number of years, backend selling has contributed to both land based companies and online businesses. The normal technique involves making the customer aware of other products. It may be products that cater to other needs that the customer may have, or it could be a product that compliments a product that was already bought. For example, if the customer bought a cell phone you might sell them a headset.

Whatever the product backend selling is the selling that is done after the initial sale. If the customer is satisfied with the initial purchase he’ll then assume that the company offers quality products and will look into purchasing the second product being offered.

When you start your affiliate marketing endeavor you should have a backend plan in mind. One that outlines specific products you want to sell, who might want to purchase them and a marketing strategy in order to make the deal.

As an affiliate you can assume backend by becoming familiar with your customers needs. This can be done through polls and surveys. Next, find products that compliment each other and your customer’s needs. For instance, a woman who buys an e-book about niche marketing may also want a report that illustrates case studies used in the e-book. Start with understanding your customer’s needs and then find products to meet them.

The success of backend selling is heavily dependent on a strong relationship between the customer and the affiliate. In other words, there needs to be high level of trust between them. Hence why selling backend products is easier for many affiliates compared to the initial sale, and in many cases preferred.

Backend selling can redefine your business. If you are not doing it you are not only leaving thousands of dollars on the table, you may be sabotaging the growth and success of your business. The success of many businesses relies on backend selling and those that neglect it never really pull a profit.

The easiest way to sell your backend products is immediately after the customer has made their first purchase, while they still have the credit card in their hand and is in a purchasing mood. Place the backend products on the thank you page.

Always follow up with customers after a purchase to get feedback on their feelings about the product and to send them letters introducing or reminding them of other products that may be of interest to them.

As the number of people plunging into the affiliate marketing pool grows, so does the number of people who shop online. You can increase your online earnings by encouraging further online spending through backend selling.
