"Daniel!" Niamah called. He looked at her, then Jacob but said nothing. Distraught, Niamah turned to glare at Xavier.
"If you've done anything to him...I swear to god, you will not live to see me burn this house to the ground!" she hissed. He mock – gasped and then chuckled.
"You stupid, stupid girl" he shook his head.
"Danny boy, come over here" he snapped his fingers and Daniel made his way to him.
He stopped beside him and then, to Niamah's disgust, started stroking his hair.
"Don't touch him!" she shouted. He rolled his eyes but dropped his hand.
"Danny, tell her. Please just shut her up before I do something drastic" he pretended to yawn. Daniel nodded and turned to look straight at her, with a smile that made her skin crawl.
She moved forward, shrugging off Jacob's restrictive hand, and came to a stop in front of Daniel.
"Niamah" Jacob warned. She ignored him.
"What have they done to you? What have they threatened to do?" she whispered to him, and stroked his cheek. He said nothing, just looked at her, and she for a moment she thought she saw...contempt?
In a way, Daniel was like a son to her, even though he was only a few years younger. He was like the brother she never had. He was the family she craved. She was glad that he had no visible injuries but she was also very scared. Why was he unharmed? Was Xavier not as brutal as over people who tend to kidnap innocent people? She glanced at him. He was watching with amusement.
"I'll get you out of here, don't worry" she told Daniel. He snorted, and pushed her away. She was so surprised she stumbled.
"Don't bother"
"What?" Jacob snapped, Niamah was unable to speak.
"God, you're such an imbecile. Do you think I would've let them 'kidnap' me if I didn't want to be? I may be unable to do Tai Kwon Do or whatever but I'm not stupid. I can protect myself" he sneered.
Jacob was very suspicious by then.
"What are you talking about?"
Daniel sighed and then very slowly, deliberately Niamah thought, moved towards Xavier and threw an arm around his waist. Only Jacob and Niamah could see the grimace that passed through Xavier's face and it all came clear to them.
