The Asassin's Love 13
KABOM!

Niamah pulled herself off the floor with a grimace. Her left arm was broken and both her knees were grazed and bleeding badly. When she had seen the lorry coming for them, she had opened the car door and jumped out. It was the best thing to do in the circumstances. She coughed and wiped the blood from her lips. The motorway was a mess. She searched for the red BMW and almost had a heart attack when she saw it lying upside-down. She hobbled towards it and saw that Jayden's hand was hanging out of it. Panicked, she started to run for it, ignoring the pain blazing its way through her legs. She reached the driver's door and tried to yank it open. It was stuck. Of course.
"Please don't be dead" she kept repeating, the tears starting to overflow. She saw a concerned man getting out of his van and she screamed for help. He came running and seeing her trying to open the door, started to help. They managed to get it open wide enough to drag Jayden out. Niamah bit back a sob as they lay him down on the tarmac a few feet away from the accident. Jayden's head and face was bleeding profusely, his right leg was at a twisted angle and he was unconscious.
Suddenly she remembered Jacob. She started for the car again but a hand grabbed her right arm and pulled her back. She winced.
"What are you doing?" she shouted.
"The car's gonna blow! Don't be stupid!" the man shouted back.
"But my friend is in there" she said.
"I don't care! The least I can do is keep you alive" he explained.
"NO! I'm getting him out!" she stated and started walking back to the car. She had stepped about two feet when the car blew up. The force and sudden blazing warmth pushed her back into the driver's arms and he pulled them both down next to Jayden.
Niamah stared unblinkingly at the wreck that had been the car. It was burnt and surrounded by fire. It was like an over sized black candle. She stood up, swatting away a hand and stared at the wreck once more. She willed Jacob to come stumbling out of the car. Hurt but alive. Jacob. Come on Jacob!! People had gathered and nobody moved, instead staring at her face. It was covered in scratches, sooty from dirt and also twisted up in anger and, they saw, as her eyes filled up, sadness. She started screaming.
"JACOB! JACOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOB!" she started moving towards the wreck but this time two people helped the driver to hold her back. Of course she could have escaped their concerned grasp easily enough, but she was too weak. Plus she knew they were only trying to help. But still, she wriggled and cried, screaming out for Jacob. Jacob did not clamber from the car, a grim grin fixed on his face.
"It's alright. I'm fine. Only a broken arm, but you know, I can handle it" she imagined him saying. Her tears made tracks down her blackened cheeks, and her head swiveled as she heard sirens approaching.
She sat down, cradling her arm. Jacob was dead. Jacob. Was. Dead. She shook her head and ran her hand through her hair.
Sure she had hated him in the car, but...not really; he had been her childhood sweetheart. Her first...everything! A paramedic put a hand on her shoulder and she looked up, trying to stop her tears. It was a woman, her name tag declaring her as Margaret. Margaret smiled sadly and helped Niamah over to one of the ambulances waiting.
"You alright love?" a paramedic in his late forties asked her. Despite the pain that was spreading through her body, she rolled her eyes.
"Do I look alright to you?" she whispered sarcastically, her voice hoarse from shouting. Jamie shook his head and pulled out some antiseptic.
"No love, you don't, not all" he said quietly as he took her arm delicately.
Niamah looked across at the other ambulance, where Jayden was on a stretcher, being carefully loaded into it. He was still unconscious, his leg and head bandaged. She felt the tears welling up again. She hoped he was all right. Jamie finished patching her up and pulled on her undamaged arm to let her know she could stand up. She wiped under her eyes and stood up, put her hand on the ambulance door and was just about to step up when she heard a shout. She turned around, and stared in confusion.
*Niamah's POV*
A firefighter was standing behind the wreck, looking at something on the ground. He shouted again. A few more joined him. They looked at each other, and then one bent down. He re-appeared a second later, flustered. He said something to the others, who looked down disbelieving then two of them, ran over to us, the nearest ambulance.
"There's a man over there, and he's barely alive, but he's breathing!" one gasped while the other nodded. Jamie and Margaret jumped into action. Grabbing a green bag and a stretcher and jogged to the wreck. I followed, right behind them.
When I saw Jacob, I stared crying again. He looked terrible! I found that I couldn't look for long. I turned my head and started breathing in shallow, quick gulps. My vision blurred and then all of a sudden the world went dark.
