The Antidote
No human has the perfect solution for a broken heart or the power to mend a painful wound nor the power to defeat death. Jesus Christ alone has the power over death and life; He is the antidote for all our sin and pain and the antidote for our final encounter: death. He is the Life itself, He is the antidote!
"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:14, 15
In the Encyclopedia Britannica the definition of the word antidote is this: "remedy to counteract the effects of a poison or toxin. Administered by mouth, intravenously, or sometimes on the skin, it may work by directly neutralizing the poison; causing an opposite effect in the body; binding to the poison to prevent its absorption, inactivate it, or keep it from fitting a receptor at its site of action…"
As then we can see in the definition, an antidote is the remedy that counteracts the effects of a poison or toxin. What we want to look at here is not an antidote in the physical sense, but an antidote in the spiritual sense. The way we are looking at things here, the poison is sin…it is a deadly poison that is eating away at our bodies and our souls preventing us from having any kind of relationship with God and ultimately it is the poison that will send us to eternal suffering in hell, with all chance of redemption gone.
The antidote is Jesus Christ; through putting our faith and our lives in His hands, the relationship between us little humans and the almighty God is restored, the effects of the poison (sin) is counteracted.
Let’s take a look at what the Bible tells us about the effects of sin on us and what it will ultimately lead to. In Proverbs chapter 15 we can probably find one of the best verses that explains what the relationship between the sinner and the Lord God is…in verse 29 we find the following: "The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous." One of the main things that sin does to us is the fact that it separates us from God, it puts a wall between us and the One that created us, the only way to get rid of that wall is to put your life in the hands of the Lord, it is simple faith.
The problem is that so many people do not want to accept the fact that they cannot pull that wall down, they do not want to accept the fact that Jesus Christ is the only one capable to bring down the wall and restore this lost relationship; the part that is almost impossible for people to accept is the fact that all you have to do is to ask God to do it, all you have to do is accept the Lord Jesus as your savior.
Well, I can see an excuse coming up right now, that Bible verse talks about the wicked, that is a strong word that is only used for a certain class of people. To answer that let’s take a look at another chapter form Proverbs. In chapter 6:16-19, "These six things doth the Lord hate; and yea, seven are an abomination unto Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift to running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren."
I have a question for my reader, have you ever told a lie, how about being proud, or causing mischief…that all amounts to sin…the Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. It is time to stop making up excuses for not accepting the wonderful gift that Christ is offering you, just trust Him, the relationship with God will be restored, you will have that unique relationship with our Creator that most people on earth are looking for but not finding, and in the end, you will get heaven…what more could any person want.
