The Advantages of Body Weight Training

Body weight training might be the most effective exercise program on the planet. This article goes through some of the reasons why.
When most people start exercising they rarely consider using a program of body weight training. I know I didn't when I started exercising. Like most people I started running for cardio and lifting weights to get stronger. Why did I do this? Because this is what everyone else did! However like most things in life following the crowd does not lead to the best results. Since my beginnings in training I can honestly say that a program of bodyweight exercises will get you in better shape faster than any other form or exercise. Below are some of the reasons why I believe that bodyweight training is the best.

Bodyweight exercises can be done anywhere - It doesn't matter if you're in jail, at home or at the office. If you have a little bit of space you can get in a great full body bodyweight workout. Going to a gym is strictly optional.

They'll improve your confidence - When someone performs body weight training exercises on a regular basis they become more comfortable in their own skin. This often manifests itself in a quiet self-confidence that others can pick up on.

Burn fat like butter on a hot grill - If you want to burn fat and lose weight nothing will do this better than bodyweight training. The reason is that body weight training allows you to work multiple muscles at once. The more muscles you work, the more fat you burn. It's that simple.

Become stronger in neglected areas of the body - For example most people rarely exercise their necks whichever exercise program they are on. This is a mistake because, as they say, a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. Your head is quite heavy and you need a strong neck to support it. If your neck is weak it can lead to a variety of complications including headaches and migraines. What's more as you age your head will tend to come forward on a weak neck. When this happens it will pull your shoulders forward and will create a stooped posture. To most people this is a sign of aging. It's not. It's a sign of a chronically weak neck. A strong neck is also important in preventing injury. When Christopher Reeve fell on his neck he was a paraplegic to the day he died. It is certainly possible that if he had a strong neck he might have avoided this fate.

Bodyweight exercises can save you time - When you train naturally with your own body it's possible to get in a full body workout in under 30 minutes. This is not even mentioning the time you are saving by not having to drive to a gym etc.

Perfect exercise for men AND women - When you train naturally with body weight training you are working WITH the laws of nature and what nature intended. This means that men will tend to get bigger and stronger - more masculine in appearance. Women on the other hand will get more of a "Fit n Sexy" look. Their muscles will get longer and more defined and denser yet retain their femininity. Both will get stronger and will gain flexibility and endurance.

For all of these reason I have come to believe that a program of body weight training is the best way to get in fantastic shape for both men and women. Give it a try sometime and see for yourself!
