The 2nd War: Chapter 9
Kira and Zena are punished.
The following morning...
Kira opened her eyes to knocking on her door. She looked toward her window and saw that the sun was not yet up. What could this be about?
Kira got out of bed and opened the door to find their mother there. She spoke and her angered tone shocked Kira. "Get dressed and come to my room." Without another word, she left.
As Kira dressed, she wondered what happened to have caused this. Could she know about Zena and her being out last night? No, she couldn’t... could she?
Kira approached the mother’s room still wondering what it was about. She opened the door to find Zena in the room and their mother glaring at Zena. The mother turned the glare to Kira and snapped, "Close the damn door." The mother rarely cursed. Both Zena and Kira knew they were in big trouble.
She motioned for Kira to stand next to Zena. As Kira walked over she saw a red-headed woman sitting on their mother’s bed. She completely forgot about that woman when she heard a slap.
She turned in time to see the mother back hand Zena across the face. Zena turned back to face the mother in shock.
She was even more shocked when the mother slapped Kira.
Before Kira could turn her head back to normal position, she was back-handed as well. "Wh -" Zena started and the mother slapped her again. "Shut up! You will not speak until I command you to!"
The mother then made her way over to the bed and the red-head woman handed her a thin switch or branch off of a tree. "Now," the mother said as she came back to the two girls, "Where were you two last night? You may speak."
Zena said, "We were asleep -" WHAM! The mother slapped Zena again and snapped, "I am not in the mood for lies!" She turned to Kira and asked, "Where were you two last night?" "We were in the streets." Kira said with tears streaming down her cheeks.
"What were you doing in the streets?" "We-we went to see a guy." Kira answered. "Do you two have any idea how dangerous the streets are at night? What if you two had been murdered or worse, kidnapped and raped?" "We weren’t." Said Zena.
She was the first to be whipped and the mother did not hold back on Zena. She hit her everywhere with the switch except her face. She finally stopped when Zena had curled up into a ball on the floor.
She then turned and whipped Kira, but she held back. The blows did not leave marks or draw blood. Just when Kira thought she could take no more, the blows stopped. She opened her eyes just as the mother pulled her into her arms.
"I love you." The mother said as she held Kira. Kira could do nothing but sob onto her shoulder. "I know you mean good Kira, but what you and Zena did was dangerous." She released Kira and said to her, "Go to your room. There will be no lessons today. Go to your room and rest." Kira left the room, but not without looking back at Zena.
"As for you," said the mother to Zena, "Your whipping will have to do. My guests want to see everyone, including you. You will obey me and act right toward our guests, do you understand?"
"There’s no need for me to "obey" you. I am leaving this place. Me and Wi -" "No," the mother interrupted her, "You WILL stay here and you WILL obey me! You are mine, whether you realize it or not. I can be your mother or I can be your owner. The choice is yours."
Zena gritted her teeth and shook her head. She refused to give up! "William will buy my freedom from you! Then, we’ll get married and I’ll have a man!" "This William can only buy your freedom if you were for sale. And another thing, consider your relationship with "William" over with."
