The 2nd War: Chapter 11

Breakfast with some strange guests.
Kira and Zena went downstairs into the dining to room to find the room packed. There were men and women they did not know sitting and talking at the table. The breakfast had not begun; on the table was undisturbed food such as biscuits, meat, oatmeal, and more. There was actually enough to feed everyone.

Kira and Zena took their seats just as the mother came in. However, instead of taking her place at the head of the table as usual, she sat at the other end of the table. At the head of the table sat a beautiful young male.

He had long creamy blonde hair and pretty blue eyes. He was also tall and seemed well muscled under his clothing.

Kira gasped when she saw him. He looked just like the man in the water a few years ago! No... it had to be just a coincidence.

The man was talking to someone and Kira noticed a strange ring on his finger. It was a simple ring yet beautiful piece of jewelry. The stone set in it was opal like.

"Ahem." The blonde haired male said loudly and clearly. Everyone hushed. He stood up and said in his rich and soft voice, "We thank you madam, for inviting us to stay with you and your girls." He sat down as the mother replied, "You all are welcome."

"Now," said the mother, "Let us give thanks before we begin." She looked to the blonde haired man and asked, "Care to lead us in a prayer, young sir?" "Why yes, I would love to."

"Bow your heads." Everyone did as the man said and he began a long prayer. He thanked God for the food on the table and for the girls who prepared it and blessed everyone. At the end of the prayer, Kira looked up to see Zena staring at someone. She looked and that someone turned out to be the red-head woman of last night. She was not in her black robe, but in everyday clothing like everyone else.

And so began breakfast. The food was delicious and everyone talked to one another as they ate. At the end and when everyone had finished or almost finished, everyone went around the table introducing themselves.

After Kira told her name, age, and what her favorite school subject was, she sat down to hear the blonde haired man say, "So you like to read... Do you like romantic poems and novels?" The man had commented on or asked a question to each of the girls after they introduced themselves. Kira did, however, notice this question was a little more... detailed.

"Yes sir, I do." Kira replied and she expected the conversation to end right there, like he had done with the other 7 girls. It didn’t.

She looked at him in shock as he began to say a poem to her. He looked into her eyes as he said this and she looked down in embarrassment. He continued, describing Kira with skillful words. When he finished, he smiled and winked at her.

Was Kira imagining things, or was this man actually flirting with her? Even worse, was he flirting with her in front of the mother, who strictly did not allow courtship in her house? No, he was an older man who seemed to be in his early twenties and he seemed to be a nobleman. A nobleman wouldn’t flirt with a slave like her... would he?

It was later that day during chores that Zena pulled Kira aside.

As they walked off to a place to talk, they walked by two other girls talking. One them was saying, "He’s so cute!" Kira and Zena could hear them giggling as they left the room.

"Please make this quick. I have errands to run." Kira said. Zena shook her head and said, "Kira, there’s something wrong here." Kira remembered the man at breakfast. "Well, I do admit this is a little strange, but I see nothing ‘wrong’ here."
