Family Movies

A cup of hot chocolate drink or coffee in hand, a full stomach, and all your loved ones near you, and some really good movies... a perfect way to wind up a perfect day. Go to your nearest video store and collect them before they are all out.

The Ice Storm (1997)
Directed by Ang Lee, this movie is set in the United States Thanksgiving day, 1973. It is all about how two families are trying to cope up with the political and the social change that the United States was going through in the 70's and also about how each of them gets out from practices like drugs, alcoholism, and even sexual experimentation.

Pieces of April (2003)
Directed by Peter Hedges, this story is about a girl, April, who tries to cook a Thanks dinner for her family (probably the last dinner for her mother who is suffering from cancer), only to discover that her oven is broken. Find out how she manages to make the dinner with the help of her new friends and neighbors and also how she realizes the importance of having a family.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
Directed by John Hughes, this comedy movie stars Steve Martin and John Candy, so rest assured that all you will get from this movie is laughter. It's about how Martin tries to go home for Thanksgiving, meets Candy along with one disaster after another. There are of course some touching scenes when Martin realizes the truth behind Candy's life and how from the most hated person in his life, he becomes a part of Martin's life.

Scent of a Woman (1992)
It's about how a young student changes the life of a blind, medically retired army officer and how he saves his life and how that same officer changes the life of this student for the better and how he finds out the woman who loves him truly.

The Next Three Days (2010)
This movie, directed by Paul Haggis, will be released this November. It's a story about how a woman is accused of murder and how her husband (Russell Crowe) and their son, try to free her from prison. I am sure that you are going to love this movie.
