Thanksgiving Crafts: Ideas for Kids

Thanksgiving crafts are the best way for kids to spend some time in creative activities, which will not only keep them engaged, but also help their parents in decorating the house. Here are some interesting thanksgiving craft ideas for kids.
Thanksgiving is considered to be an important day where everything is put on hold and a few days are spent in gratitude and celebration. This day is filled with activities, special decorations, unique gifts, and the list goes on as there is no end to the enjoyment. Kids are very eager to help in decorating the house, especially when they have various thanksgiving crafts and decorations to put on. So what are some interesting crafts that can keep your kids busy while you prepare the menu? The same are listed as under.

#1: Pilgrim Hat

Material Required:
  • Paper grocery bags
  • Pair of scissors
  • White paint
  • White ties cut from material
Directions:
  1. First cut the bottom of the grocery bag so that it is about 8" high.
  2. Cut one of the short sides out. i.e. the side having folds in it.
  3. Now fold back the edges of the side that you just cut about two inches.
  4. Repeat this twice.
  5. Now paint the hat white.
  6. Staple or glue on some ties.
  7. You can also tie a white scarf on the pilgrim, if you're lagging behind time.
A pilgrim is ready to wish happy thanksgiving to all of you.

#2: Candle Rings

Material Required:
  • Folding wire
  • Decorative candle
  • Green color floral tape
  • Fall themed floral picks purchased
  • Pair of scissors
Directions:
  1. Take a piece of wire and shape it into a circle that will fit well into the base of the candle.
  2. Wrap the wire in the green floral tape.
  3. There are various ideas that the kids can use to decorate their own crafts, so let them choose from a variety of fall-themed floral picks that can be purchased from the shop. These include fake leaves, berries, twigs, etc. These floral picks look fabulous on the wrapped wire locking their ends around the ring.
The ring has to be covered properly with the picks so that none of the rings is left undone. These decorative candle rings will give a sparkling glaze filled with the spirit of love and hope that will light up your house and will bring joy and happiness on this thanksgiving celebration.

#3: Glitter Pumpkins

Material Required:
  • Miniature pumpkin or gourd
  • White paint or spray adhesive
  • Glitter colors like deep purple, silver or brown
  • Organza ribbon for decoration
Directions:
  1. Take a miniature pumpkin or gourd and brush it with white paint or spray a adhesive on it.
  2. Now roll the pumpkins in the glitter.
  3. Tie a thin organza ribbon around the stem to give a sparkling and awesome getup.
Glitter pumpkins can be used as centerpieces or a mantle, and your kid would be proud that he or she has made it on their own.

#4: Pinecone Turkey

Material Required:
  • Pinecone
  • Paper plate
  • Glue
  • Markers
  • Crayons
  • Glitter
  • Construction paper fall colors
Directions:
  1. Glue the pinecone and place it on the center of the paper plate.
  2. Cut along colorful feathers from the construction paper and paste it to the back of the pinecone.
  3. Now cut out the head of the construction paper and paste it to the front of the pinecone. You can either draw the eyes or use craft eyes.
  4. Add a glittering look by sprinkling some glitter to the pinecone with the help of the glue.
This thanksgiving craft idea is an inexpensive idea as winters pine cones are easily and freely available, and yet are thoroughly unique in the way they portray the essence of the day.

#5: Apple Turkey

Material Required:
  • Apples
  • Toothpicks
  • Marshmallows
  • Raisins
  • 1 candy corn
Directions:
  1. Wash the apple and pat it dry.
  2. Now place the apple on its side and insert 5 toothpicks into the apple as if it resembles a fan.
  3. Put a mini marshmallow on the end of each toothpick. This will resemble your turkey's feathers.
  4. Now put some more toothpicks in front of the other toothpicks and place a large marshmallow on this toothpick. This will cover your turkey's head.
  5. Place 2 raisins on a toothpick and place this toothpick into the turkey's head to get a feel of the turkey's eyes.
  6. Use the candy corn for the nose and push the corn into the marshmallow using the pointed end.
And here you are with a delicious apple turkey. Kids can also place turkey place cards on marshmallows along with their name and address. This idea is a whacky unconventional way of celebrating thanksgiving.

#6: Corn Collage

Material Required:
  • Yellow and green construction paper
  • Pair of scissors
  • Glue
  • Yellow and purple tissue paper
Directions:
  1. First cut a basic corn shape out of the yellow construction paper.
  2. Tear little pieces of yellow and purple tissue paper.
  3. Now crumble the tissue papers into little balls.
  4. Glue the little balls on the corn shape that will represent the kernels of the corn.
  5. Take the green construction paper and cut leaf shapes out of it.
  6. Paste these leaf shapes behind the ear of the corn with the glue.
And here you are with a tempting corn collage.

Kids will lose track of time while these activities are still at hand, they will go at it with a zeal that will only keep you amazed. Of course all that activity is going to drain them out, so it would do you good to treat them with a few tasty thanksgiving recipes as their reward for the effort that they've put in to make this day just that memorable.
